Dotted with moss-draped oak trees, pines, cabbage palms and rolling sand dunes peppered with sea oats, Amelia Island is a well-preserved and thoughtfully zoned barrier island. The 26-square-mile island has 13 miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches, luxury golf and spa resorts, historical attractions; and Fernandina Beach, a charming Victorian seaport village with a 50-block national historic district. Amelia Island event venues are chiefly found in its quiet upscale resorts.
Amelia Island is located 28 miles from Jacksonville International Airport and 31 miles from the Prime F. Osborn Convention Center in downtown Jacksonville.
Meeting venues in Amelia Beach include resorts, some smaller chain hotels, condo and home rentals and historic bed and breakfasts. Larger groups are drawn to such properties as the 446-room Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, with 50,000 square feet of meeting space; the 249-room Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, with 50,000 square feet of meeting space; and the 133-room Residence Inn Amelia Island, with 1,177 square feet of meeting space.
Popular off-site venues in Amelia Island typically incorporate the beach or a golf course. An engaging possibility is the Golf Club of Amelia Island's evening program that includes a glow-in-the-dark Night Glow tournament with drink stations and catered dinner on the 18th fairway.
Whether it's a reprieve from intense meetings, a spouse program or just scheduled fun for a group, the recreation menu is expansive. The offerings range from golf and tennis outings and spa programs to historical tours, kayak and canoeing excursions and dine-arounds and shopping days in Fernandina Beach.
Dining options on the island are eclectic, highlighted by luxurious hotel gourmet rooms and quaint, locally owned restaurants in downtown Fernandina Beach. During the fall and spring months, dining al fresco amid sunny days and on clear, mild nights is a treasured experience on Amelia Island.
