Auburn Hills, MI Meeting Planning Overview

Most famous for being the headquarters of automotive company Chrysler, Auburn Hills is approximately 30 miles northwest of Detroit (essentially a suburb of Motor Town) and 40 miles southeast of Flint. Today it is equally known for being the home of the Detroit Pistons professional basketball team that plays in stadium of The Palace of Auburn Hills, one of many Auburn Hill event venues.

Auburn Hills is served by Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), which is 50 miles southwest of downtown Auburn Hills and has service to all over Canada and the U.S. and also to several major transportation hubs in Europe, including Amsterdam, London, and Paris.

There are no large, purpose built convention venues in Auburn Hills; instead, hotel venues in Auburn Hills focus on small groups. The 224-room Hilton Auburn Hills Suites has seven function areas, the largest able to host up to 120 persons; the 190-room Crowne Plaza Auburn Hills has eight function areas, the largest able to host up to 200 persons; the 148-room Courtyard by Marriott Detroit Auburn Hills has two function areas, the largest able to host up to 70 persons; the 102-room Hampton Inn Detroit/Auburn Hills South has one meeting room for 10 persons; and the 95-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites of Auburn Hills, with one 300-square-foot meeting room.

Unique gathering space in Auburn Hills runs to Oakland University, which has a golf and learning center that contains two championship golf courses, R&S Sharf Golf Course and Katke-Cousins Golf Course (which also come with an attractive, white, standalone clubhouse with a restaurant and a conference room); the aforesaid Palace of Auburn Hills, home to the National Basketball Association's Detroit Pistons and that also puts on musical entertainment and has six separate club areas for private events, including Club 300 for 330 persons, Pistons VIP Club for 475 and Courtside Club for 50; and Noah's Event Venue, essentially a very attractive whitespace that can be themed and with a main banquet space for 300 persons, a conference room for 80 and two meeting rooms for 16 and 20, respectively. Just to the south in Bloomfield Hills are Cranbrook House & Gardens, which is half cultural center with events space, half Arts and Crafts-movement icon, with landscaped, award-winning gardens for more group opportunities, and Cranbrook Institute of Science, a museum with a science area with events space for up to 500 persons, an arts gallery for events of up to 200, more gardens; Thornlea Mansion, which has events space for up to 50; and the Greek Theater for 250.

Restaurants in the city able to host groups include Palm Palace, which is part of a very small chain and specializes in Mediterranean and seafood dishes; Red Ox Tavern, a glorified sports bar but with a great menu and private dining spaces for up to 20 and 80 persons, respectively, and a patio for 90; BD's Mongolian Grill for Mongolian-style barbecue; Spargo's Coney Island for a Greek menu; and Rangoli for Indian cuisine and with the ability to cater to private events of up to 140 persons.
