Why Choose Our Destination?

Welcome to Chattanooga — this brief introduction is just a taste of everything Chattanooga has to offer for meeting professionals about planning successful events here. We think you’ll like the flavor of our city. Known as one of the top leisure travel destinations in the south, Chattanooga is “The Scenic City” for a reason with stunning mountain views and river activities just minutes from a modern cityscape filled with thriving culinary and arts scenes, not to mention our myriad historical landmarks. The name “Chattanooga” is a Creek word meaning “rock coming to a point,” a nod to majestic Lookout Mountain which serves as the iconic beacon for the entire city. In that sense, you could say that Chattanooga has always been a place where people naturally gather — coming from miles away by train, cars, planes and boats — since it was founded in 1838. That legacy of hospitality and sense of community continues to this day. We know no strangers and welcoming new faces to our city is, you could say, in our DNA. Because when you visit Chattanooga, you’re simply one of us. Oh yeah, we almost forgot. That song? Many visitors recall the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s “Chattanooga Choo Choo” released in 1941. We’re incredibly proud about our passenger railroad travel history, which was is an important chapter in Chattanooga’s story. But it’s certainly not the only thing to love about the city. Pardon us, while we tell you more …

Getting Here

Could Chattanooga be more centrally located? We think not. Our city is just a few hours from major cities like Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville and even closer to Knoxville and Huntsville. It’s easy to get to Chattanooga as it’s located at the intersection of three major Southeast interstates: I-75, I-24 and I-59. The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is just an easy 15-minute trip from Downtown. Direct flights are available from New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, Orlando, Washington D.C. and Charlotte with more in the works. Traveling within the city is easy, too. Enjoy the free electric shuttle throughout the day and visit a variety of neighborhoods using the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) buses. And if you’re looking for a bit of exercise, you can utilize Bike Chattanooga’s with more than 30 stations throughout the city. Locals will tell you the best way to experience Chattanooga is the old-fashioned shoe leather method. Also known as “by-foot” or “walking.” From the Tennessee River to Lookout Mountain, the city is built for pedestrians with something interesting to see around every corner. Our advice? Get lost on foot. Use the peak of Lookout Mountain and the sparkling gold of the Dome Building as your guideposts.
