George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

Located about 70 miles from Galveston, George Bush Intercontinental Airport provides non-stop service to approximately 110 domestic destinations and non-stop or direct service to 65 international destinations. The airport is Continental Airlines' largest hub, serving nearly 800 total daily departures among its airlines. Bush Intercontinental recently completed a new $440 million Terminal E and Federal Inspection Services project, which resulted in 84 primary inspection booths that can process more than 4,500 passengers per hour. Meanwhile, an on-site Marriott Airport Hotel features 566 guest rooms, 39 meeting rooms, two ballrooms and complimentary underground train service to the airport.

The airport features more than 25,000 parking spaces in covered garage and economy lots, which operate free shuttle service to the terminals. Parking charges are $2 for up to one hour, $3 for one to two hours, $5 for two to three hours, $7 for three to five hours and $17 for five to 24 hours.

About 50 miles from Galveston is Houston's 2nd largest airport, William P. Hobby Airport. Offering non-stop service to more than 32 destinations throughout the United States, William P. Hobby Airport is one of Southwest Airlines' largest hubs and saw more than 8.8 million passengers in 2007. The airport's one terminal is stocked with such amenities as wireless Internet service, more than a dozen food and beverage establishments and a variety of retail shops.

Galveston, TX Public Transportation

Island Transit

Island Transit operates the public transportation system in Galveston. Fixed route buses operate in a service area of 27 square miles, while its restored trolley system, known as Galveston Island Trolley, covers six miles.

Island Transit's seven bus routes currently run daily from about 6 AM to 7:30 PM with extended hours on the Bayou Seawall Route. Fares are $0.50 for children and seniors and $1 for adults.
