Hamburg, Germany's second-largest city and the sixth-largest in all the European Union, has meant business ever since it was a Hanseatic trading post of the Holy Roman Empire (an entity that ceased to exist in 1806). Still known today for business, Hamburg has other claims to fame including the Historic Warehouse District “Speicherstadt” (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Landungsbruecken harbor tourism areas, as well as its St. Pauli district of bars, restaurants, and nightlife. The city contains numerous Hamburg event venues, such as concert halls, theaters, and other entertainment facilities. Designed to look like a rolling wave in homage to Hamburg's world-famous harbor and the city's close connection to the ocean, the Elbphilharmonie provides an eye-popping and truly unique new meeting venue for planners and delegates. It's located in the brand new design and architecture hub, HafenCity, and adjacent to the Speicherstadt. On the interior you'll find a myriad of options for meetings and events, including two performance halls that features world renowned performances. The building also hosts a 5-Star Westin Hotel for top-notch dining, lodging and meeting spaces.
All that business arrives at the Hamburg Airport (HAM), which is eight miles north of the city center and has service to all parts of Europe and the Middle East, as well as to the United States on United Airlines to Newark, NJ. Most flights to North America connect through Frankfurt, Germany.
