Located just 12 miles from downtown, the Huntsville International Airport is the airport of choice for an 18-county region in Alabama. It provides a gateway to and from the city for more than one million passengers per year. The airport offers approximately 80 flights per day on six major carriers. Non-stop service runs to major domestic cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Detroit and Washington, DC.

Huntsville, AL Public Transportation

The City of Huntsville Shuttle Bus System

The city of Huntsville operates a fixed route shuttle bus system on 13 different routes covering 175 miles. For visitors, the Tourist Trolley Loop and the Downtown Loop are especially convenient. The Tourist Trolley Loop provides stops at major attractions such as the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Constitution Village and the Von Braun Center. The Downtown Route, which is free on weekends, provides efficient service to attractions, restaurants and hotels.

Buses run approximately every 30 minutes Monday through Friday from 6 AM to 6 PM. Regular one-way fare is $1 per adult and $0.50 for children and seniors. Transfers are free. The Tourist Trolley fare is a flat rate of $2 per day.

Rental Cars

Several familiar rental car companies, including Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty, can be found adjacent to the baggage claim area at Huntsville International Airport. Additional rental car companies are located at nearby off-site locations.
