The largest island in Hong Kong, Lantau Island has been developed in recent years with the completion of several infrastructure projects. The new developments at the northeastern tip of the island has reinforced the meetings and events venues in this part of Hong Kong. While much of Lantau Island remains a beautiful natural habitat, a modern airport, a convention and exhibition center, modern luxury hotels, and the Hong Kong's Disneyland Resort (Disney's second resort in Asia), Lantau has been ramping up its appeal as a meeting destination.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), is the first place most international visitors touch down in Hong Kong. A major hub for Cathay Pacific (the flag carrier of Hong Kong), HKG flies all the major air carriers directly or through alliances. While shuttles and taxis are available to bring attendees to Lantau Island meeting venues, most of the islands venues are accessible by the Hong Kong Subway System. The Airport Express Train connects the airport, major hotels and AsiaWorld-Expo with downtown Hong Kong in 18 minutes from Kowloon Station and 23 minutes from Central Station. Special fares are available on the Airport Express for groups convening at AsiaWorld-Expo.
The largest of convention venues on Lantau Island is the AsiaWorld-Expo, which can host meetings with more than 14,000 delegates. The center comprises more than 100,000 square feet of meeting space, including 10 state-of-the-art contiguous, column-free halls. The adjacent 13,500-seat AsiaWorld-Arena is a top venue for accommodating large-scale meetings and conferences. AsiaWorld-Summit, a unique room in the venue, is Hong Kong's largest indoor convention and hospitality hall, which can host up to 5,000 delegates.
Hotel venues in Lantau Island include those at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort: the 1,750-room Disneyland Hotel, with 16 meeting rooms, and the 600-room Hollywood Hotel. Near the airport, there are the 658-room SkyCity Marriott Hotel which is attached to AsiaWorld-Expo, with 14,000 square feet of meeting space, and the 1,171-room Regal Airport Hotel with 30,000 square feet of meeting space. Some other options are the 128-room Silvermine Beach Resort, with five meeting rooms; and the 440-room Novotel Citygate Hotel with 4,000 square feet of meeting space.
