Hugging the north side of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Linthicum is part of the Annapolis-Baltimore area within Anne Arundel County. The community, with its abundance of top-brand meetings hotels and Linthicum event venues, is convenient to the metro DC area.
Linthicum’s largest hotel, the BWI Airport Marriott, finished a renovation of all 309 guest rooms in January 2013. Meanwhile, Linthicum’s high-profile neighbor, BWI Airport, has terminal expansion and improvement projects under way. In addition, Spirit Airlines has its operations headquartered at BWI and contributes to the overall low cost of flights at BWI. Groups staying in the area have access to complimentary airport shuttles (including the Marriott, the Westin, and the Sheraton), Amtrak, and metro service.
The convention and conference venues in Linthicum are all within hotels, most of which are meetings-savvy national brands. The largest hotel is the BWI Airport Marriott, which has meeting space to handle up to 900 people. The next largest are the 260-room Westin, with meeting space for up to 600 and the 280-room Hilton, which can accommodate meetings for up to 800 people. Two hotels have the meeting space to host a group in the neighborhood of 300 people: the 203-room Sheraton and the 260-room DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton. In addition, the 150-room Hotel at Arundel Preserve has the capacity to host a meeting for up to 250 people and the 251-room Embassy Suites can handle groups of up to 150 people.
The Linthicum area is also home to two of Maryland’s top attractions. Arundel Mills Mall is a 1.3-million-square-foot complex with more than 200 stores. Maryland Live! Casino opened on the back side of the mall in June 2012. The $500-million, 300,000-square-foot casino includes 4,750 Las Vegas-style slot machines and electronic table games, including Blackjack, Roulette, Mini-Baccarat, and Pai Gow Poker, along with a hearty restaurant and entertainment roster.
There are many possibilities for off-site special events in the Linthicum area, and several center on Arundel Mills Mall. At Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, groups can take over the show in the 1,000-seat Grand Ceremonial Arena. There is also meeting space that has flexible setup options and presentation capabilities as well as a pre- and post-show reception area with dance floor. At Maryland Live! Casino, there are several spaces for small parties at the various dining venues, and groups can also rent Rams Head Center Stage, a 500-seat live music entertainment venue.
While there are a number of good restaurants within the Linthicum hotels, diners will also want to check out all the options at Maryland Live! The casino’s restaurants range from The Prime Rib and Phillip’s Seafood for fine dining, to Noodles, an Asian noodle bar; Bobby’s Burger Palace, created by celebrity chef Bobby Flay; and the expansive Live! Buffet. Among the eight full-service bars available, perhaps most entertaining is the R Bar, a circular interactive bar inspired by the game of Roulette, where customers can place their bets while placing their drink order.
