Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain along the James River, Lynchburg was deemed, by Thomas Jefferson no less, as the most interesting spot in the state. Home to just over 75,500 residents, Lynchburg has managed to retain its breathtaking natural beauty and charm while keeping current with modern amenities - including over 2,000 guest rooms and more than 30,000 square feet of space available in Lynchburg event venues.
The city is a quick drive from several nearby metropolitans – fewer than four hours from Washington, DC, Raleigh and Richmond. For groups arriving by plane, Lynchburg Regional Airport (LVH) has 12 daily flights to and from Charlotte International Airport.
Chief among meeting venues in Lynchburg, the James River Conference Center is located in the heart of downtown, making it one of the most popular event venues in Lynchburg. Encompassing 25,000 square feet of space, the facility can accommodate groups from five to 1,500 people. In addition to three acres of free parking, the center is perfect for business events thanks to built-in, audio-visual support in its meeting rooms, a business center and full food and beverage service.
The Lynchburg area is also home over 20 hotels, many of which have spacious conference centers and meeting space. Hotel venues in Lynchburg include the 168-room Kirkley Hotel & Conference Center, which offers first-class service and four meeting rooms along with a spacious 3,700-square-foot ballroom. Located in the former Craddock-Terry show factory, the Craddock Terry Hotel has 44 exquisite guest rooms and a wide range of event space, from the 1,750-square-foot Riverside Foyer to the 2,100-square-foot Granite Hall. The Ramada Inn, Holiday Inn Select and Courtyard by Marriott all offer Lynchburg meeting space.
After-hours events and dinners find a home at one of the city's many unique event venues and restaurants. A leading arts and entertainment destination in Central Virginia, the Lynchburg Academy of Fine Arts has a large event space for up to 500 people as well as a conference room and smaller gallery for more intimate affairs. The Queen Anne-style Avoca Museum was home to Revolutionary Patriot Colonel Charles Lynch and is now home to not just a wealth of Civil War artifacts but also year-round event space. Restaurants such as the Crown Sterling and Olde Liberty Station are also great Lynchburg restaurants for private events.
For groups looking to enjoy the majestic scenery of the Blue Ridge while in town, visit one of the many Lynchburg area wineries. Hickory Hill Vineyards & Winery can host a variety of events and group tours. Savoy-Lee Winery has a 2,000-square foot event room, complete with hardwood floors and a large, flat-screen television. It can also incorporate wine tastings and cellar tours to private event itineraries.
