Morgantown, WV Meeting Planning Overview

Hotel venues in Morgantown account for more than 2,000 hotel rooms, and with world-class meeting facilities, a unique Personal Rapid Transit system that ferries travelers from one station to the next within five minutes— plus a location that's fewer than five hours by car from major Northeast destinations—groups are happy to discover this West Virginia destination. Many of the city's facilities are purpose-built with sports in mind, from ice skating to gymnastics to high school football.

Located at Waterfront Place, the Morgantown Event Center is a multi-purpose facility for meetings, conventions and trade shows. Along with riverside views and a convenient location near I-68 and I-79, the Morgantown Event Center boasts 30,000 square feet of function space spread across four meeting rooms, a ballroom and three outdoor terraces. Adjacent to the center is the Waterfront Place Hotel, which has 205 rooms and an additional 10,000 square feet of function space in 18 meeting rooms and a 1,728-square-foot ballroom.

Among the sports venues in the Morgantown area are seven 18-hole golf courses, including the Pines Country Club, host of The Duramed FUTURES Tour. The regulation hockey-size Morgantown Ice Arena has 400 seats, and the $8.4-million, state-of-the-art complex at University High School has 4,000 seats and parking for 650 vehicles.

One of the most unique venues is Morgantown is Mylan Park, a popular venue for recreational events and special events as well. Formerly home to an active surface mining operation and now a shining example of responsible reclamation, the park has a 5,000-square-foot field turf arena, four baseball fields, an equestrian center, a 28,000-square-foot strength and fitness conditioning center and 24 professional horseshoe pitching courts. Also at the park is the Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center, a 53,000-square-foot expo facility that can host events of up to 4,500. Finally, there's the 14,000-seat West Virginia University (WVU) Coliseum, home to the WVU Mountaineers men's and women's basketball teams, men's wrestling, and women's volleyball and gymnastics teams.

In addition to its first-class recreational facilities, Morgantown's art galleries, historical spots and restaurants serve as excellent venues for special events. The WVU Creative Arts Center encompasses five venues, the largest of which is a continental-style theater for 1,444 guests. The Metropolitan Theater is another performing arts venue; it has a total capacity for 927 people and state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. Downtown Morgantown and the historic Wharf District also have over 35 restaurants and cafes, many of which are available for private dining.
