Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Meeting Planning Overview
The capital city of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh is both a modern city and historical center, thanks to its rich heritage and cultural sites, as well as its modern architecture and its ancient buildings. This vibrant city bursts with attractions and things to do, as well as such landmark areas as its Dir'iyah World Heritage Site and Al Ghat Heritage Village. Visitors to Riyadh also frequent the city's shopping malls, fine restaurants, and celebrated museums, as well as such architectural marvels as the soaring Kingdom Tower.
Visitors to Riyadh can fly into the nearby Riyadh King Khalid International Airport. Set about 22 miles north of the city, the airport will soon link up with the city's massive Metro transportation network. Scheduled for a 2019 opening, Metro will consist of six rapid transport lines along 110 miles of track and 85 stations.
Meeting venues in Riyadh include the sprawling Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center (RICEC). A state-of-the-art complex, RICEC is located about 15 minutes from the airport and features a 157,000-square-foot exhibition hall, outdoor event spaces, and a 1,000-person auditorium, among other spaces. A second event venue option, the Makarim Convention Center is attached to the 418-room Riyadh Marriott, which sits near the city's corporate, financial, and governmental sections, as well as 30 minutes from the airport.
