Sha Tin, Hong Kong Meeting Planning Overview

In one of the three main regions of Hong Kong, Sha Tin is a fast-growing town in one of the nine districts of the New Territories. The most attractive of Hong Kong's new towns, Sha Tin is overlooked by mountains, with a river running through the town. It is dotted with tranquil parks and is a recreational, shopping, gourmet, and cultural center. Many Sha Tin MICE venues have arisen around Sha Tin Racecourse.

The best way to travel to Sha Tin is by Mass Transit Railway (MTR) at Hong Kong International Airport, where a train leaves for Kowloon every 25 minutes. Sha Tin is a 30-minute journey by MTR East Rail Line, which starts at Hung Hom in Kowloon.

MICE venues in Sha Tin include the 567-room Hyatt Regency, which has more than 8,000 square feet of space (featuring a 4,628-square-foot, pillarless ballroom that can accommodate 500 theater-style). In addition, nine boardroom-style meeting rooms are ideal for small-scale workshops and breakout sessions, and there is a private area for breakouts—opening opportunities for MICE groups. Also, the recently opened 539-room Courtyard by Marriott Hong Kong Sha Tin (one of Marriott International's largest properties in Asia) accommodates up to 430 people in its 5,543-square-foot, pillarless ballroom, and includes a spacious foyer that is divisible into three equal parts. Royal Park Hotel, with 443 rooms and suites, is conveniently located in the heart of Sha Tin with easy access to different modes of public transportation; the hotel has a 1,033-square-foot meeting area that can accommodate small meetings. Finally, the 1,138-room Regal Riverside Hotel, on the right side of Shing Mun River and surrounded by dining and entertainment places, is used by large tour groups.

Among the town's special event venues, Sha Tin Racecourse is home to the world's richest day of turf racing. It has a retractable roof over a parade ring, and the world's longest Diamond Vision Television screen. Sha Tin Racecourse is where major events, including the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races, the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup, and the BMW Hong Kong Derby, are held. The racing season, which starts in September and runs to July of the following year, is an experience that must be included in itineraries.

A half-day group tour could include attractions in Sha Tin, featuring Shing Mun River, scenic country parks and hiking trails, historic temples, the newly established, sculpture-rich City Art Square, and a cluster of shopping arcades in the district.
