An affluent residential suburb of Vancouver, West Vancouver lies just across the narrow Burrard Inlet from downtown. Despite its proximity to the city (just five miles from downtown via the Lions Gate Bridge), West Vancouver feels a world away, with long stretches of beach and rocky coastline and a dramatic mountain backdrop. For event planners, hotel options are very limited, but several unique dining and event venues in West Vancouver are suitable for smaller groups.
West Vancouver is served by the Vancouver International Airport (YVR), located eight miles south from downtown Vancouver in Richmond, BC. YVR is Canada's 2nd-busiest airport, behind the Toronto Pearson International Airport, serving approximately 17 million passengers and approximately 300,000 take-offs and landings per year.
Hotel venues in West Vancouver itself are limited to the Horseshoe Bay Motel, which has 23 rooms and no meeting space. More plentiful options exist in neighboring North Vancouver; these include the recently completed 106-room Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier, the 70-room Londsale Quay Hotel and the Holiday Inn. Larger groups will likely be better served by options downtown, including the 511-room Westin Bayshore, which has 51,334 square feet of meeting space and is located just across the Lions Gate Bridge.
Event venues in and around West Vancouver reflect the community's privileged natural setting. The Glen Eagles Golf Course, near the waterfront community of Horseshoe Bay, can accommodate 250 people in its 3,980 square feet of space. In neighboring North Vancouver, the Capilano Suspension Bridge – a popular sightseeing attraction centered on a dramatic canyon – offers numerous venue options. The Canyon House Banquet Room can seat 110 guests, while the adjacent Canyon Lookout deck can host an additional 130 guests. For outdoor receptions, the Bridge House can also accommodate 110 people. Elsewhere, the Seymour Golf and Country Club can host 140 people in 2,254 square feet of event space.
Dining venues in West Vancouver include the Salmon House, a destination restaurant on the mountainside that can host groups of up to 140 people. On chic Ambleside Beach, Saltaire Restaurant offers dining for 100 people near the waterfront, with a rooftop terrace capable of handling an additional 75 guests. In nearby Horseshoe Bay, the Boathouse Restaurant can handle buyouts for 200 people and has a private upstairs dining room for 60 people. Finally, in nearby North Vancouver, elegant Le Bistro Chez Michele offers French cuisine and accommodates 175 people in its main dining room or 32 in its private wine room.
