Yosemite, CA Meeting Planning Overview

Your group wants The Great Outdoors? Yosemite is all about that. Spanning nearly 1,200 square miles, Yosemite National Park is a vast, protected wilderness of waterfalls, redwoods, wildlife, and much more. The park, which was created in 1864 by the passage of the Yosemite Land Grant, is a founding member of the U.S.' celebrated national park system. Team building in Yosemite can inspire groups with a sense of purpose, just as Yosemite event venues can provide them with a sense of comfort.

For those wishing to fly into Yosemite, the closest airport is Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH), which is served by Alaska Airlines and United Express on a seasonal basis. Bay Area hubs such as San Francisco International (SFO), Oakland International (OAK), and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International (SJC) are approximately three hours away by ground transportation. Within the park itself, the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) provides shuttle service between the park and its gateway towns in a dedicated bus lane.

While there are no convention venues in Yosemite per se, the 302-room Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite (which is actually outside the park) has the largest amount of meeting space, at 15,000 square feet. Other hotels venues in Yosemite include the 628-room Curry Village, which is within the park and boasts 14,000 square feet of meeting space; and the 123-room Ahwahnee Resort, which has 6,000 square feet of space. Both Tenaya and Ahwahnee are 4 Diamond resorts; other lodging options range from full-service properties to rustic accommodations.

The dining experience in Yosemite forms part of the mountain resort tradition. The Dining Rooms at the Wawona Hotel and Ahwahnee Resort feature hearty gourmet fare in high-style surroundings. Tenaya features the fine-dining restaurant Embers among its five dining venues. And there are many opportunities for casual buffets and picknicking outdoors in season.

Groups convening in Yosemite learn quickly that it's not only a park, it's one of the world's largest resort destinations. From chef's tables, spas, golf, and watercolor lessons to stable rides, hiking, rock-climbing and winter skiing, Yosemite has an amazing list of activities that can be enjoyed by just about anyone. Team-building activities are offered at the Tenaya Lodge.

In 2014 Yosemite National Park celebrates its 150th anniversary. Its facilities and beauty are hard to match. Parkland are not only precious resources, they offer ample space for convening groups.
