Expanding Broadband e-Connectivity in Rural Communities

Introduction and Objectives

APLU’s Office of Economic Development and Community Engagement is seeking information from its member institutions regarding the assistance they have provided rural communities in gaining the benefits of access to high speed internet. Our motivations for collecting this information are:

  1. To identify successful e-connectivity expansion efforts at APLU-member institutions;
  2. To identify gaps and barriers APLU members face in assisting rural communities with e-connectivity;
  3. To develop support for APLU member institutions to address these gaps.

Background on this issue is available from this white paper. This RFI gathers general information and contact information regarding rural broadband efforts at your institution. Your participation in this input gathering process will be very much appreciated. We will follow up by reviewing this information and contacting the relevant contacts at your institution to understand the full picture of what you are doing to help rural communities access and effectively use high speed internet. We will summarize this information to articulate promising practices that are making a difference for rural communities and keep you posted on next steps as we explore ways to support these efforts through APLU.
