Der Ursprung des Namens Forte dei Marmi
Der Name „Forte dei Marmi“ leitet sich von der roten Festung aus dem 18. Jahrhundert ab, die Sie auf dem Hauptplatz sehen. Der Großherzog der Toskana, Peter Leopold I. von Lothringen, befahl den Bau, um die Küste und das Landesinnere vor türkischen Angriffen zu schützen. Es wurde auch als Lagerhaus für den Marmor genutzt, der vor der Schifffahrt aus den Bergen gewonnen wurde. Deshalb nennen sie es Forte dei Marmi, eine Marmorfestung.
