It is because of this geographical nexus that this is where staid Yankee Brahmins of Beacon Hill share a bench with working class immigrants of “Southie.” Where bankers suited in pinstripes from the Financial District stand in line with performing arts students with full-sleeve tattoos from Emerson College. Tourists from Faneuil Hall and the North End (Little Italy) adjust their camera settings while school children from Chinatown adjust their backpacks. Weary office workers disappear down escalators into the “T” (Boston’s subway) just as theater and concertgoers eagerly emerge. A step to the left and you are strolling through America’s oldest public park, Boston Common.
