About us
Located in the heart of this University city of Durham, and on the banks of the River Wear, the hotel boasts stunning views across the skyline of the city. It’s just a short walk away from the world famous Cathedral and Castle. Through the cobbled streets, explore this unique city’s blend of old and new with shops, bars and restaurants to suit all. With the original part of the hotel steeped in history and dating back to the 17th century, the hotel offers 150 bedrooms – 55 of which are standard, 60 are deluxe, 34 supreme and the Presidential Suite. Some bedrooms, but not all, offer views of the River Wear. What makes the Royal County a truly special venue is its facilities to cater for small to large conferences, groups and events. All conference rooms benefit from air conditioning and natural daylight. The Cromwell Suite is a flexible event space seating up to 120 guests theatre style. Meanwhile the Dunelm Room, Neville Room and the Bowes Room, with their city views can be set in a range of styles. All rooms are accessed via the Banqueting landing – a large open space at the top of the ornate staircase. Easy access to the hotel is via the A1/A690 and chargeable car parking is available for up to 72 vehicles.
