Indonesia National Monument or what Indonesian and Jakarta people usually call as Monas is a monument built to remember the struggle of Indonesian heroes fighting the colonial domination. Monas was built based on the idea of the first president of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, with the help of Sudarsono and F. Silaban as the architect, and Ir. Rooseno as the consultant. It’s builts on an area with a width of 80 hectares. Monas was officially open on 17th August 1961 by President Soekarno, and publicly open on 12th July 1971. The top of Monas shaped like a flame, symbolizing a never extinguished spirit of Indonesian people. The flame was made of bronze medal which weight was 14.5 ton, and was plated with 35 kg gold. The flame has 6 meters diameter and consist of 77 concentrated parts.

Jalan Surabaya is well known for the antiques market located there. Jalan Surabaya itself is located at Menteng area, at the Central of Jakarta. You can see kiosks/shops that sell antiques like wayang, porcelain, wooden sculptures, mask, eating stuffs made of silver and brass, antique lamp, metal souvenirs, old fashion ornaments, old telephon, old carema, old woven cloth, phonograph record, and some others. One of the kiosks there is selling antiques of ship stuffs like ship rudder, compass, telescope, and old diving stuffs. At the antique markets at Jalan Surabaya, there’re some kiosk that specialized on selling bags and suitcases. There’re also kiosks that sell old books.

Inaugurated in 1978, Istiqlal Mosque (id: Masjid Istiqlal) owned by Indonesian State Secretary with Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesian Republic. Istiqlal meaning ‘Independence’, is a reminder of Indonesia’s struggle for national independence. Its 17 years construction was personally supervised by the first President of Indonesian Republic, Soekarno. The largest mosque in Southeast Asia both in structure and capacity, as it can accommodate congregation of up to 120,000 people, has 4 levels of balcony. Located at Jalan Taman Wijaya Kusuma in central Jakarta, on the northeastern corner of the Merdeka Square, the Istiqlal Mosque stands out with its 45 meters diameter dome and supported by 12 huge columns which covered by aluminium plates. Standing almost right across the old Catholic Church (id: Gereja Katedral) at the corner of Jalan Lapangan Banteng, the mosque was designed in 1954 by Frederich Silaban, a Christian architect from North Sumatra.
