About us

Welcome to the Hewing Hotel! A cornerstone of the North Loop, the Hewing Hotel is close to it all but far from ordinary. Hewing Hotel’s 124 guest rooms and 14 suites offer a truly unique Minneapolis experience for travelers and locals who appreciate luxurious accommodations and historic charm. Hewing Hotel’s name was inspired by the giant pine beams that abound in the interior of the hotel. They were logged in Minnesota and floated down the Mississippi to the mills at St. Anthony Main just down the street. Each room is unique and slightly different than the next. Exposed wood, metal and brick reveal the building’s history as a farm implement warehouse and showroom. The furnishings are high-end and comfortable, and the luxurious amenities in all rooms create an exceptional hotel experience in the heart of Minneapolis’s North Loop neighborhood. Our menu is inspired by the bounty of Minnesota’s woods & lakes and pays tribute to the state’s strong Scandinavian roots with influence of rural Nordic practices of foraging, butchery and fermentation techniques and heavily driven by seasonality. Our culinary team focuses on hyper-local sourcing and works with regional farmers, freshwater fishermen and other independent vendors to deliver a local, approachable cuisine. The bar serves local craft beers, classic cocktails and house-made sodas. We are always happy to look into specialized menu for you, if you are looking for something extra special and/or customized.

Internationally recognized as a leading arts venue, the Walker Art Center presents contemporary visual arts and design exhibitions; dance, theater, and music performances; and film screenings. The Walker hosts lectures, classes, and events for visitors of all ages with many of today’s leading figures from the worlds of art and culture. The building’s elegant brick tower, designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, opened in 1971 and is complemented by a dynamic aluminum mesh and glass expansion by Pritzker Prize–winning Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, completed in 2005. Overall, the campus has 11 exhibition galleries, a cinema, the McGuire Theater, a series of indoor lounges and outdoor terraces, and a café, bar, and restaurant. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, a joint project of the Walker and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, is one of the crown jewels of the city’s park system. The 11-acre site, located across the street form the Walker building, is home to the iconic fountain-sculpture Spoonbridge and Cherry by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. We’ve begun renovation of the Walker Art Center/Minneapolis Sculpture Garden campus, an ambitious project that will bring a unified, one-campus feel to this 19-acre expanse of urban green space. Notable changes include a new entry pavilion for the Walker and reconstruction of the 26-year-old Garden, the greening of Hennepin Avenue, and the addition of hundreds of new trees to the Walker hillside and the Garden. The Walker will remain open during the entire renovation project, with the completion of the new entrance anticipated in November 2016. Nearly all Garden artworks will be placed in storage during construction, and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden will be closed to the public until June 2017. Other beloved favorites, including works by Frank Gehry, Mark di Suvero, and others, will be accessible to the public through short- and long-term loans to community partners.
