Would you like to stroll though a paper birch forest? Spring along a spongy bog? Watch fowl of all sorts go about their business. You can do this all on the trails of the Richmond Nature Park. s you explore the park you will discover it is dominated by one distinct environment: the peat bog, a land of mossess, heaths, and shrubby trees. The main factor maintaining this bog ecosystem is the boss moss, sphagnum moss. However it faces stiff competition from birch and hemlock trees as they are transforming the bog to forest. As you visit the park you will enter a dynamic habitat - one that is continuously evolving.

Whale Watching Steveston
Recreation
We try to show you as much variety as we can find on our trips, but the animals we see can travel great distances daily so every trip is different! Depending on the time of the year the animals you might see on your whale watching Vancouver trip could vary as well. Probably the most well know cetacean in our waters in the orca or killer whale (Orcinus orca). The transient (mammal-eating) orcas could be spotted anytime throughout the year whereas the resident (fish-eating) orcas (who could also be spotted anytime) are more frequently seen in the summer months as they search for the salmon making its way up to the Fraser River to spawn. In the spring, the migrating Grey whales (Eschrichtius robustus) have been making their way north from their breeding grounds in Mexico. On their journey towards Northern BC and Alaska every once in a while a couple may wander within our range if food is abundant enough for them. Another possibility is the Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae), also mostly migratory making their way north as well. Minke whales (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) are common residents of the coast as well although they are not often seen since they’re so streamlined and elusive! Apart from the larger species we might also be lucky enough to spot harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) or Dall’s porpoise (Phocoenoides dalli) on our trip. Also keep your eyes on both water and land for harbour seals (Phoca vitulina), California sea lions (Zalophus californianus), and Stellar sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus).
