Cube houses The Cube House, also called pole or tree house, is a design by architect Piet Blom. He wanted to design a kind of village in the big city, where he saw the houses as trees and the entire complex as a forest. This starting point also explains the name: Blaakse Bos. The cubes are, as it were, tilted, so that three sides face the ground and three face the sky. Small-scale businesses, shops and the Stayokay Rotterdam hostel are located on the (traffic-free) promenade below the cube houses. The striking Cube Houses are close to the Market Hall and the Old Port with the White House.

Historical Delfshaven is a picturesque marina and withstood the bombing of Rotterdam in 1940. The port has a striking history. It is the birthplace of naval hero Piet Hein and it is also the location from where the Pilgrim Fathers left for America almost 400 years ago. Historical Delfshaven used to earn a living with herring fishing and distilling gin. Now you can find cozy antique and trinket shops, cafés and restaurants in the historic canal houses. Such as De Pelgrim Brewery and De Oude Sluis café, both with a terrace on the harbor. The terrace of 't Ouwe Bruggetje, one of the better restaurants in Rotterdam, is even on the water.

The apartments are draped over the fresh market in horseshoe shape. If you walk through the market stalls and look up, you will see the artwork "Horn of plenty" by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Because of this largest work of art in the Netherlands, the Markthal is also called the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel. Interested in a look behind the scenes? Hoek van Holland is the seaside resort town for Rotterdam, the place to be for visitors of all ages. Sunbathing or building sandcastles, watching boats from the Nieuwe Waterweg, strolling through the dunes: Hoek van Holland has it all. History and additional information: “De Hoek” is a lively seaside resort which borders onto the North Sea and Nieuwe Waterweg. Hoek van Holland was founded in 1864 at the time the Nieuwe Waterweg was created. Hoek van Holland started to develop in many ways after the war and again became well known as a sparkling seaside resort. In the 1970s the harbour of Rotterdam needed to be deeper to host the increasing freight vessels. The 19 million cubic meters of sand that was excavated was dropped behind the Noorderpier into the sea. The new land that was created was named van Dixhoorn driehoek, (Dixhoorn triangle) after the engineer van Dixhoorn. Nowadays, these damp dune valleys are home to many unique plants, flowers and animals and are a stunning recreation area to enjoy a walk and/or bike ride. It’s beautiful boulevard, many parks, striking walking and cycling routes, several unique museums, the world famous Maeslantkering and of course our clean, wide and sandy beaches have attracted many tourists. Hoek van Holland is an all-season coastal seaside resort which will astound you and thanks to our direct connection to Harwich, Hoek van Holland is just a small step away from your perfect holiday

Rotterdam offers excellent train connections. The intercity trains from all over the Netherlands call at Rotterdam Central Station, but also the international highspeed trains like the HSL and the Thalys stop in Rotterdam. At Rotterdam Central Station it is easy to transfer to metros, trams and busses in Rotterdam. The old station by Sybold van Ravesteyn was out of step with current requirements with respect to size, layout and grandeur. What was needed was a new station, designed as one entity: the station hall now runs from Proveniersplein on the north side to Stationsplein on the south – in other words, the 250-metre-wide platform roof forms a whole with the main concourse and the train travellers’ tunnel. The result is that from the moment of arrival, train passengers have the sense of entering a building. A salient feature of the location is the big difference in character between the areas north and south of the station. To the north there is a residential area. Here the new station roof makes a modest and transparent impression. On the city centre side the station exhibits a new grandeur that is in keeping with the dimensions of the imposing high-rise buildings that characterize the entrance to the city. Rotterdam’s urbanity is reinforced here by a metropolitan station architecture in which the building and the new station square merge. Here the station roof folds to create a welcoming and very spacious station concourse, which also provides direct access to the new metro station below.

Kinderdijk windmills: unique & iconic water management A significant part of Holland is situated up to approximately 7 meters below sea level. The Dutch don’t notice any of this though, because an incredibly innovative and intricate system keeps the ever-rising seawater from flooding the land. Even during spring tide, the Dutch are safely guarded from being washed away… The most important aspect of UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk is undoubtedly the unique collection of 19 authentic windmills, which are considered a Dutch icon throughout the entire world. A visit to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is a journey through the history of art. Dutch and European masterpieces provide a comprehensive survey of art from the early Middle Ages to the 21st century, from Bosch, Rembrandt and Van Gogh to Dalí and Dutch Design. Art collection Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. In 1849 the lawyer Boijmans left his art collection to the city of Rotterdam. With the acquisition of the Van Beuningen collection in 1958 the museum got the second part of its name. The museum houses a unique collection of paintings, sculptures and everyday objects. The collection of prints and drawings is one of the best in the world. The museum also organises a diverse programme of spectacular temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Old and modern masters Marvel at the beautiful works by Bruegel the Elder and Rembrandt. Follow the development of Impressionism and Modernism in the paintings of Monet, Van Gogh and Mondriaan. Lose yourself in the dream world of the Surrealists Dalí and Magritte. And the art is not only inside: the museum has a wonderful view of the sculpture garden. Contemporary art and design The museum shows how everyday objects have changed over the last eight hundred years, from medieval jugs and glassware from Holland’s Golden Age to Rietveld furniture and contemporary Dutch design. A young generation of visual artists such as Eliasson and Cattelan bring the museum’s art collection up to date. Stately beacon The museum’s monumental building opened in 1935. It was designed by the municipal architect Van der Steur specially to house the collection. The stately redbrick building contains both large galleries where art can be viewed in daylight and more intimate spaces. The building survived the bombing of the city in 1940 and has been extended several times over the years. To this day the building’s tower remains a beacon in the city.

A new start in 2004: Early in 2004, thanks to the intervention of the Hotel New York Group, the Euromast ultimately underwent a complete makeover. Everything will change, apart from the view, so the motto said.
