Recognized as one of the most ornate facilities in the country, the Majestic has long held a special place in the archives of Texas theatrical and architectural history. Located at 224 E. Houston Street in the heart of downtown San Antonio, the Majestic was designed and built in 1929 by John Eberson for Karl Hoblitzelle's Interstate Theatres, and stood proudly for many years as the largest theatre in Texas and the second largest motion picture theatre in the country. It was intended to be the most modern and ornate building in South Texas - complete with new sound and projection equipment - and was the first theatre in the state to be totally air-conditioned.

More than 2.5 million people a year visit the 4.2 acre complex known worldwide as "The Alamo." Most come to see the old mission where a small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against the Centralist army of General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Although the Alamo fell in the early morning hours of March 6, 1836, the death of the Alamo Defenders has come to symbolize courage and sacrifice for the cause of Liberty.

King William District
King William District
Historical landmark

The King William Historic District, located immediately south of downtown San Antonio on the east bank of the San Antonio River, was established in the 1840's, when a large number of Germans immigrated to Texas and settled in the vicinity of San Antonio. The main entry street into the area was named after Kaiser Wilhelm I, King of Prussia in the 1870's. During World War I the name was changed to Pershing Avenue, but a few years after the war the original name was restored, except in the English form of the name, King William, which the area has retained up to the present. The King William neighborhood is rich in history and cultural diversity. The area includes three local and national historic districts, as well as properties individually recognized for their historical significance. The neighborhood offers bed and breakfasts, art galleries, restaurants, and a thriving commercial corridor known as Southtown. The KWA area is bordered by the Blue Star Arts Complex and its sister neighborhood, Lavaca.
