Local Attractions

Orchard Road

2 km away
Considered as the retail hub of Singapore, Orchard road is a bustling road regularly frequented by foreigners and locals alike. Dotted with a large amount of shopping malls, café’s, hotels and night clubs Orchard road can be regarded with conviction as a shopper’s paradise. The road’s name has derived from the nutmeg orchards that used to dominate the area in the 1830’s. Living up to its name large trees can be still seen along the sides of the road providing the tourist and shoppers with much needed shade.

Little India

5 km away
Little India is a cacophony of car horns, bicycle bells and the vibrant chatter of its residents. This explosion of sights, smells and sounds that you’ll find in Tekka Market is only a short walk from Little India MRT Station. Tekka, as it’s popularly known, boasts a plethora of stalls selling Indian, Malay and Chinese food that regularly draws crowds from all over Singapore. There’s also a wet market stocked with the freshest vegetables, meat, fish, spices and flowers. Stock up on souvenirs such as brass oil lamps and pots, or buy a fresh garland of jasmine, whose scent is signature aroma of Little India.

Dempsey Hill

3 km away
Formerly known as the British army barracks and the old CMPB national service enlistment centre, where charming conservation buildings still stand proudly. Hot enough for you to let down your hair on a Friday night out. Cool enough to saunter in with the family for Sunday brunch. Dine and savour fine wine in a private cellar or at your favourite gourmet restaurant. Take your pick from exqusite antique furniture, fine teak works, handcrafted carpets and exotic art pieces sourced globally. Whistling trees and balmy breeze are just the perfect antidote for claustrophobic souls and little hyperactive legs.

Kampong Glam

6 km away
The name of this quaint and historical district originates from the Gelam Tree, which once grew abundantly in the area. In 1822, the land in Kampong Glam was officially allocated to the Malays and others in the Muslim community, including a small but successful community of Arab traders. In 1989, the Urban Development Authority gazetted Kampong Glam as a conservation area, and most of the original architecture has now been restored. To explore Kampong Glam, hop on the MRT and alight at the Bugis MRT Station. A stone’s throw away from Bugis MRT Station, you’ll find shopping haunts such as Bugis Junction, the bustling Bugis Street Market, and of course Kampong Glam. Rows of conserved shophouses, painted in vibrant colours, line Bussorah, Baghdad and Kandahar Streets, and many of them are occupied by trendy design and IT firms, restaurants, caterers, art galleries, and craft and curios shops.

Singapore Botanic Gardens

2 km away
Located here is the National Orchid Garden, lauded as the world’s largest orchid display featuring over 60,000 plants and orchids. Also found at the Bukit Timah core is the Jacob Ballas Children’s garden—Asia’s first children’s garden—the perfect spot for all children to play, discover and learn about the intricacies of plant life.

5 km away
Chinatown is Singapore’s largest historic district, nestled close to the bustling business hub. When Raffles announced Singapore as a trading post in 1819, many Chinese flocked to Singapore, and by the end of the 1860s, the Chinese community had grown to encompass 65% of the population in Singapore. Chinatown is now made up of exotic pre-war shop houses, home to merchants who have been hawking the same wares for years – bales of fine silk, traditional handicrafts, and gold and jade jewellery. Make a visit to the large Chinese emporium Yue Hwa, conveniently located at the junction of Eu Tong Sen Street and Upper Cross Street. It stocks a wide array of authentic Chinese products such as tea, medicinal herbs, foods, household items, antiques and traditional Chinese costumes such as the cheongsam.

Zoological Gardens & Night Safari

17 km away
Renowned around the globe as one of finest zoos and acclaimed for its open concept, the Singapore Zoological Gardens is home to over 3600 animals, reptiles and birds. The uniqueness and the appeal of the zoo is its novel concept of encircling animals with natural barriers like rock walls, vegetation and streams. Spreading over 28 hectares the zoo is a haven for the animals that call it home.

Lau Pa Sat

7 km away
The itinerant hawkers plying push-carts of yesteryear were once a common sight at the Lau Pa Sat Festival Market, but they’ve long been replaced with a permanent food centre offering a choice of breezy, alfresco dining, or clean, air-conditioned space. However, the Lau Pa Sat Festival Market still retains its old world charm, with traditional satay vendors setting up stalls outside. The signature chilli crab and steamed cockles with a spicy dark sauce rarely fails to impress, while other local favourites such as fried hokkien mee and chicken rice are still highly sought-after, even after so many years.
