Tidal Bore in Moncton
Tidal Bore in Moncton
Park

If you’ve never experienced the tidal bore in Moncton, head down 15 minutes before the scheduled arrival of the daytime bore. A tidal bore is a tidal phenomenon in which the leading edge of an incoming tide forms a standing wave of water that travels upstream, against the current of a river or narrow bay. The tidal bore in Moncton is caused when the unparalleled tides in the Bay of Fundy begin to make their way up the historic Petitcodiac River. The Bay of Fundy is home to the highest tides in the world and over 100 billion tonnes of water comes in and out of the bay each day! This incredible natural phenomenon can be best viewed from Bore Park (10 Bendview Court) in downtown Moncton Twice daily, observers can watch the tidal bore as this incoming rush of water overtakes the outgoing tide in the formerly placid river. On average, the height of the bore ranges from 0.5 to 1 metre.

The Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport has a long and storied history from its humble beginnings in a field in the 1920s to a modern new terminal building being officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2002. Construction of the 1,174-metre extension to Runway 06/24 and the addition of the associated partial parallel taxiway and de-icing pad started in 2012 and was completed on time and on budget with the official opening on October 17, 2013. Completion of the Airport Operations Facility (AOF) in November 2015 resulted in the efficient consolidation of four department activities into the combined facility. The AOF is approximately 34,000 square feet and houses fleet maintenance, airfield maintenance, electricians and Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF). The building was designed with the environment in mind to reduce energy, lighting and water use. On August 18, 2016, The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport announced the renaming of the Greater Moncton International Airport to the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport.
