An hour and a half's drive from Wellington, boutique hotel and spa Wharekauhau Country Estate is the real deal: a 3,500-acre working sheep and cattle farm set on dramatic coastline in the Wairarapa wine-growing region. Wharekauhau Country Estate provides 16 cottages.
