De uitgestrekte groene uitgestrektheid met een regelmatige indeling is een echt openluchtmuseum, bevolkt door beelden uit de oudheid en de Renaissance. De tuinen zijn ook versierd met grotten, waarvan de belangrijkste de beroemde grot is die door Bernardo Buontalenti is gerealiseerd, evenals grote fonteinen, zoals de Neptunusfontein en de Fontein van de Oceaan. De daaropvolgende dynastieën van Habsburg-Lotharingen en Savoie hebben de indeling verder ontwikkeld, waarbij de grenzen langs de oude stadsmuren werden verlengd tot aan Porta Romana. In het verbluffend mooie terrasvormige gebied staat een 18e-eeuws paviljoen genaamd het Kaffeehaus, een zeldzaam voorbeeld van rococo-architectuur in Toscane, en het Lemon House, gebouwd door Zanobi de Rosso tussen 1777 en 1778. De rondleiding door de Boboli-tuinen maakt het bezoek aan het Pitti-paleis compleet, waarvan het een integraal onderdeel is, waardoor de geest van het hofleven ten volle kan worden gewaardeerd en van de tuinen kan worden genoten, die, hoewel ze voortdurend worden bijgewerkt, trouw blijven aan hun oorspronkelijke project.
