Mendes da Costa kamer (1.2 on floorplan)

Dettagli sala
According to Berlage, the Beurs van Berlage was to encourage the spiritual development of people and would be a wonderful community work.
Artists were put to work to decorate the Exchange center with as a central theme “the trade history of the Netherlands”. In accordance with the spirit of the times, all the artises were more or less followers of symbolism. This meant that they did not immediately reveal the significance of their work.
In his father’s masonry, Joseph Mendes da Costa (1863-1939) made gravestones and sinks. As an artist, he focused on ornaments and statues and he also designed interiors. Mendes da Costa thought his designs were not only decorative, they also had to support the function of the space.
The artists are not only immortalised in the works of art that they left behind in the building, the breakout rooms in the building are also named after the masters. The Mendes da Costa kamer is located on the 1st floor
