Dettagli sala
According to Berlage, the Beurs van Berlage was to encourage the spiritual development of people and would be a wonderful community work. His friend and kindred spirit Albert Verwey (1865-1937) received the task to imagine which wall decorations, sculptures and pictures were to come into the building. Verwey created a concept for the decoration programme in eighteen quatrains. Each artist was given a four-line quantrain to devise a concept that fitted in the Berlage and Verwey design. Artists were put to work to decorate the Exchange center with as a central theme “the trade history of the Netherlands”. In accordance with the spirit of the times, all the artises were more or less followers of symbolism. This meant that they did not immediately reveal the significance of their work. The artists are not only immortalised in the works of art that they left behind in the building, the breakout rooms in the building are also named after the masters. This room is located on the 1st floor
