Roland Holst kamer (1.5 on floorplan)

Dettagli sala
According to Berlage, the Beurs van Berlage was to encourage the spiritual development of people and would be a wonderful community work.
Artists were put to work to decorate the Exchange center with as a central theme “the trade history of the Netherlands”. In accordance with the spirit of the times, all the artises were more or less followers of symbolism. This meant that they did not immediately reveal the significance of their work.
Adriaan Roland Holst (1868-1938) was convinced that art and culture helped to achieve a better and fairer society. He came, like Berlage, from a wealthy family, but the painter still fought for workers’ rights and solidarity. Roland Holst made the murals ‘Industry and Trade’, which can be seen in the stairwell on the south side of the Damrak.
The artists are not only immortalised in the works of art that they left behind in the building, the breakout rooms in the building are also named after the masters. This room is located on the 1st floor.
