Pūnāwai Lake (on site)

Recreation
5 minutes away
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai produces Hualalai oysters, grown and harvested onsite. Raised in the Resort’s Pūnāwai Lake, the oysters grow in water that comes from a pristine subterranean seawater aquifer, tapped and drawn from wells deep within the lava. Pūnāwai Lake is self-contained, offering clean and pure water, allowing these oysters to be grown organically. The oyster production also stabilizes the phytoplankton bloom within the lake to avoid algae “crashes” or mass die-off of the phytoplankton, which consequently leads to oxygen depletion within the lake. The oyster growing habitat at Pūnāwai Lake is currently stocked with thousands of oysters that will be harvested for the exclusive enjoyment of guests at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.

Hawaiian Salt Flat Experience (on site)

Recreation
Embark on a journey to our nearby salt flats with a cultural ambassador, where guests will learn how ancient Hawaiians harvested salt decades ago. Guests vwill then be led through a private, interactive cooking class with a member of our culinary team, who will incorporate Hawaiian salt into the dishes and further explain the ways it was traditionally used in Hawaiian cooking. The salts are also used in the Salts of the Ocean body treatment at the Hualalai Spa.
