In the 1920's, The Brown Hotel drew over 1,200 guests each evening for its dinner dance. By the wee hours of the morning, guests would grow weary of dancing and make their way to the restaurant for a bite to eat. Sensing their desire for something more glamorous than traditional ham and eggs, Chef Fred Schmidt set out to create something new to tempt his guests' palates. His unique dish? An open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon and a delicate Mornay sauce. The Hot Brown was born! Available in our restaurants and bar the Hot Brown continues to exemplify our unending dedication to serving our guests. Such culinary prowess and commitment, of course, doesn’t go unnoticed. The Hot Brown—a Louisville tradition with worldwide appeal—has been featured in Southern Living, The Los Angeles Times, NBC's Today Show, ABC News with Diane Sawyer, Travel Channel's Man v. Already recognized as a leader in inquiry-based learning, the Louisville Science Center is advancing a science literacy campaign to encourage people of all ages to explore science in everyday life. The Louisville Science Center has a rich history, from its founding as a “cabinet of curiosities” in the Public Library System of Kentucky in 1871 to its current status as the region’s leading resource for informal science education. Boasting at one time little more than an Egyptian mummy and a 16,000-piece mineral collection, the Science Center is now the largest hands-on science center in Kentucky, with about 150 interactive exhibits and activity stations, a four-story IMAX Theatre, teaching laboratories, educational programs, and distance learning capabilities. Designated the “State Science Center of Kentucky” by the 2002 Kentucky General Assembly, the Louisville Science Center features interactive exhibits and engaging programs for children, families and adults. The Louisville Science Center is committed to growing a scientifically literate community that investigates, questions, and challenges.

Waterfront Park is both a non-profit organization and a public park in Louisville, Kentucky. Bordering the Ohio River, we are not only a destination but the front door to the city. Belle of Louisville is a steamboat owned and operated by the city of Louisville, Kentucky, and moored at its downtown wharf next to the Riverfront Plaza/Belvedere during its annual operational period. The steamboat claims itself the "most widely traveled river steamboat in American history." Belle of Louisville's offices are aboard Mayor Andrew Broaddus, and also appears on the list of National Historic Landmarks. To board the Belle of Louisville is to do more than to see Louisville and the Ohio River from a unique perspective — it’s also quite literally stepping into a piece of American history. Belle of Louisville Riverboats presents history through a variety of engaging cruise and dockside events—entertaining and educating over 12 million passengers since 1963. A National Historic Landmark and an icon of the Louisville Waterfront, the Belle is the only remaining authentic steamboat from the great American packet boat era on America’s waterways. At 108 years old and counting, the Belle remains purely steam-powered and paddlewheel-propelled. The Belle’s sister vessel and a newer addition to the Waterfront, the Mary M. Miller, was named after Louisvillian Mary Millicent Miller, who also happened to be the first woman ever to attain her steamboat captain’s license way back in 1884. With as much spirit as her namesake, the Mary M. Miller is a propeller-driven riverboat with old-fashioned charm and modern amenities. Both vessels feature a full-service cash bar, concession stand, outdoor observation decks, indoor, climate-controlled decks and wheelchair accessibility to portions of the vessel.

The Speed Art Museum was the vision of philanthropist Hattie Bishop Speed, a great supporter of all arts, in memory of her husband James Breckinridge Speed. Established in 1925, construction of the Museum soon followed, and the Speed first opened its doors January 15, 1927. The Speed Art Museum, originally known as the J.B. Speed Memorial Museum, now colloquially referred to as the Speed[1] by locals, is the oldest and largest art museum in Kentucky. It was established in 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky on Third Street next to the University of Louisville Belknap campus and receives around 180,000 visits annually. The museum offers visitors a variety of "art experiences" outside its collection and international exhibitions, including the Speed Concert Series, the Art Sparks Interactive Family Gallery, and the late-night event, After Hours at the Speed The Speed houses ancient, classical, and modern art from around the world. The focus of the collection is Western art, from antiquity to the present day. Holdings of paintings from the Netherlands, France, and Italy are prominent, and contemporary art and sculptures are also heavily featured.

Go Cards! The Louisville Cardinals (also known as the Cards) are the NCAA athletic teams representing the University of Louisville. The Cardinals teams play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, beginning in the 2014 season. While playing in the Big East Conference from 2005 through 2013, the Cardinals captured 17 regular season Big East titles and 33 Big East Tournament titles totaling 50 Big East Championships across all sports. On November 28, 2012, Louisville received and accepted an invitation to join the Atlantic Coast Conference and became a participating member in all sports in 2014.[3] In 2016, Lamar Jackson won the school its first Heisman Trophy. Since 2000 Louisville is the only NCAA team to win a BCS bowl game; to appear in the NCAA Division I men's basketball Final Four, the College World Series, and the NCAA Division I women's basketball Final Four; and to finish as runner-up in the Men's soccer College Cup. The Louisville Bats are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League (IL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. They are located in Louisville, Kentucky, and are named in dual reference to the winged mammal and baseball bats, such as those manufactured locally under the Louisville Slugger brand. The team plays their home games at Louisville Slugger Field, which opened in 2000. The Bats previously played at Cardinal Stadium from 1982 to 1999. The club began play as the Louisville Redbirds in the Triple-A American Association (AA) in 1982. Louisville won three AA championships: in 1984, 1985, and 1995 as the top affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. They joined the Triple-A International League in 1998 following the dissolution of the AA after the 1997 season. The Redbirds rebranded as the Louisville RiverBats in 1999; this was shortened to Bats in 2002.

Louisville City Football Club is an American professional soccer club based in Louisville, Kentucky. The team plays in the USL Championship, known through the 2018 season as the United Soccer League (USL), which is currently the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. The club was founded in 2014 with team franchise rights relocated to Louisville and played their first USL season in 2015.[1] After reaching the Eastern Conference finals of the USL playoffs in both its first two seasons, the club went on to win the 2017 USL Cup in only its third season of existence. In 2018, they repeated as champions, becoming the first team to win back-to-back USL Cup championships. In 2019, they became the first team in USL history to play in three consecutive USL Cup Finals, but they fell just shy of their third championship In 2022: Infused with new talent, Louisville City FC did more of the same on the pitch, advancing to an eighth straight Eastern Conference Final and winning its fourth before falling away to San Antonio FC in the USL Championship Final. Along the way, the boys in purple hit 20 wins in a regular season for the first time and accumulated a club-record 72 points. Wilson Harris scored a team-high 15 goals, Kyle Morton won the league’s Golden Glove award, and veteran winger Brian Ownby continued to improve with age, numbering a career-high 10 goals to go with his 4 assists. On Aug. 13, LouCity set a Lynn Family Stadium attendance record of 14,673 for its 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

The Louisville Palace is located on the east side of Fourth Street between Broadway and Chestnut. This location is convenient to the city's finest hotels and restaurants. Designed by noted architect John Eberson, the theatre opened at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 1928 at a purported cost of over two million dollars--a whole lot of money in those days. Although its facade is dynamic in appearance, it doesn't provide a clue as to the immensity and spectacular design of the interior of the theatre. Upon entering the lobby and grand foyer, the Spanish Baroque motif begins its development. Cobalt blue, bursts of red and gold indirectly light all of the niches, coves and entrances. Above the Spanish treasures there is a curved, vaulted ceiling with 139 carvings of the eternal greats. In a central portion one finds plaster busts of Socrates, Beethoven, Dante and even John Eberson himself! In any direction there is something magnificent to please the eye and spark the imagination

1925 The Brown Theatre opens on October 5, with Elsie Janis in a revue called Puzzles. The theater is named for J. Graham Brown, Indiana native and longtime Louisville resident. Modeled after New York’s famous Music Box Theatre, the Brown boasts a 40’ x 40’ stage that is the equal to anything in New York except the Hippodrome. 1930s With the Great Depression, road bookings dry up, and the Brown is leased to the Fourth Avenue Amusement Company as a movie theater. 1962 The Brown is renovated to once again stage live performances. 1971 After another renovation, the theater is sold to the Louisville Board of Education and is operated under contract to the Louisville Theatrical Association. The theater is subsequently rechristened The Macauley Theatre, after an earlier Louisville theater located on Walnut Street (now Muhammad Ali Boulevard). 1982 The Broadway-Brown Partnership is formed and purchases the theater and the adjoining hotel in an effort to rejuvenate the southern end of Louisville’s downtown business district. 1995 The dressing rooms are renovated in preparation for the premiere of Stage Door Charlie, a musical starring Tommy Tune. The event is staged as a fundraiser, and the following year a new roof is put on the building. 1997 The Fund for the Arts acquires the building and undertakes to finance the remainder of the $4.2 million restoration. The Kentucky Center is contracted to manage the theater. Generous gifts soon follow from the W. L. Lyons Brown Foundation, the Brown family and Brown-Forman Corporation. 1998 The newly re-rechristened W. L. Lyons Brown Theatre includes new stage equipment and rigging, a modern computerized marquee and a new heating and airconditioning system. A further gift from Owsley Brown Frazier results in the main reception area adjoining Fifth Third Conference Center being named the Frazier Lobby.
