In de zomer kunt u een veerboot nemen naar de prachtige Cinque Terre en Portovenere vanaf de pier van de nabijgelegen steden Marina di Massa of Viareggio. De tour duurt een hele dag. De veerboot vertrekt's ochtends vanaf de pier en keert in de late namiddag terug. Je kunt de vijf kleine dorpjes vanaf de zee bewonderen en een paar uur stoppen om rond te lopen. Je kunt tickets online of rechtstreeks bij de pierkiosk kopen.

De oorsprong van de naam Forte dei Marmi
De naam „Forte dei Marmi” is afgeleid van het 18e-eeuwse rode fort dat je op het centrale plein ziet. De groothertog van Toscane, Peter Leopold I van Lotharingen, gaf opdracht tot de bouw ervan om de kust en het binnenland te beschermen tegen Turkse aanvallen. Het werd ook gebruikt als opslagplaats voor het marmer dat vóór het aan boord gaan uit de bergen werd gewonnen. Daarom noemen ze het Forte dei Marmi, een marmeren fort.

We continue the story and memories of our grandparents who taught us everything about our Sicilian and Neapolitan heritage.
