Steveston Historic Village
Steveston Historic Village
Historical landmark
7 kms
Today, Steveston still maintains the character of a quaint, historic fishing village, with over 600 fishing boats––Canada's largest fleet––calling Steveston Harbour home. Over the years, due to its still active fishing fleet, historic buildings, and National Historic Site, The Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Steveston is still very much a small fishing village, though changing quickly. It boasts over 350 businesses and services to accommodate its growing population. Steveston has become a popular place to visit and live. On sunny days, visitors flock to Steveston's waterfront boardwalks to enjoy the scenery, people and food. In 2002, Steveston hosted a Tall Ships festival, and approximately 400,000 people came to see hundreds of restored sailing ships dock along the coastline. While the event was a spectacular attraction for families, it was a financial flop, and it received strong criticism from Richmond City Council. Recently, Steveston has also become known as "The Gateway to the Orca," referring to the very active whale watching industry calling Steveston Harbour home. Shuttling boatloads of tourists and locals out to the Gulf of Georgia to observe orca (killer whales), seals, eagles and more.

Quilchena Golf & Country Club
Quilchena Golf & Country Club
Recreation
4 kms
The exceptional course at Quilchena Golf & Country Club offers 120 acres of golf with five sets of tees, allowing for up to 6781 yards of play. The deceptively challenging par-73 layout offers players of all ages and levels an opportunity to enjoy the unique ocean-side park-like setting while testing patience, course management, and skill at every turn. Thanks to Quilchena's westerly location, the course boasts better weather than any other Metro Vancouver golf course. Great weather, combined with well-defined fairways complete with a new state-of-the-art drainage and irrigation system, and extensive cart paths make for the best playability all year round. Quilchena is located on the south arm of the Fraser River estuary, as close to the Strait of Georgia as possible in Richmond. This can create a links-style wind challenge on many rounds. A player often uses many different approach clubs throughout the round, requiring a variety of shots. The course layout is such that the holes cross the prevailing winds, so every hole plays differently on windy days. Each green is unique, ranging from very flat and tricky to read, to holes with plenty of slope. Whether it’s for a casual few holes in the evening, a championship round, or to play a team match with your regular foursome for a few bucks, the course at Quilchena delivers in fine style.
