Named after one of the most captivating shorelines on the Spanish coast, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens captures jaw-dropping European extravagance in an enchanting American context. The home’s builder, James Deering, was a prolific industrialist who explored uncharted territory in the creation of this ambitious home, building his Renaissance-inspired estate at the heart of Miami’s tropical hardwood hammock. Although inspired by the earlier architectural style, the home was very innovative in its incorporation of the modern technology available at the time of its construction (1914), including everything from details on how the structure itself was built to the incorporation of modern touches such as a telephone switching system and a central vacuum system. Though he only wintered at Vizcaya from 1916 to 1925, upon James’s departure, the estate was left to several nieces and nephews.
Deering’s adventurous spirit lives on to this day. The estate’s very emblem – “The Caravel” – commemorates a ship used during the “Age of Exploration.” As you begin your own exploration of this historic Miami icon, you’ll notice an image of the mythical voyager “Bel Vizcaya” at the entrance, marking the beginning of a most memorable journey ahead.

Crandon Park is a large county park complex that offers something for everyone including beaches, hiking and biking trails, a tennis center, golf course and marina. Visitors to the park can explore the various ecosystems of the Key including the dunes, mangroves, and coastal hammock and seagrass beds; and observe herons, ospreys and many brilliantly colored butterflies. The Island is also home to rare and beautiful plants like the beach peanut, Biscayne prickly ash and the coontie. The beautiful sandy beach, coastal dunes and tropical hardwood hammocks are an important nesting and feeding ground for migrating songbirds, hawks and sea turtles. Seagrass beds provide a home for mangrove snapper, parrotfish, crabs, shrimp, sea stars and puffer fish.
Crandon Park's beautiful two-mile beach is consistently named among the top ten beaches in the nation. It is one of the most popular recreation destinations in all of Miami-Dade County, enjoyed by millions of residents and tourists each year.

Rickenbacker Causeway - Hobie Beach

The Rickenbacker Trail provides a wonderful venue for biking, walking, jogging or in-line skating. Rickenbacker Trail begins in southern Miami and continues south along the Rickenbacker Causeway/Crandon Boulevard for nearly 9 miles, traversing the length of Key Biscayne. Along this popular route, you'll have beautiful views of Biscayne Bay, beaches, and palm trees.
Just off of the Rickenbacker Causeway, is the preeminent place for windsurfing in Miami. Hobie Beach (also called Windsurfer Beach) has earned its nickname by playing host to a locally run windsurfing rental concession for more than twenty years. Experienced vets and adventurous vacationers alike can spend the day experiencing this exhilarating activity. Sign up for a two-hour lesson, or an all-day group lesson.
Hobie Beach is also notable for being Miami's favorite dog friendly beach. In fact, it is the only dog-friendly beach in Miami-Dade County. Bring your doggie pal here for a nice romp on the sand. The water is shallow, so dogs can play in the surf a bit without any worries about strong currents.
Hobie Beach/Windsurfer Beach is located right in between Brickell, Downtown Miami and Key Biscayne, so beach goers will enjoy amazing skyline views from this calm off-road beach with concession stands and free parking.

The Coral Gables Museum’s facility consists of the historic site, the Old Police and Fire Station, and additional galleries and outdoor spaces that were created in the 2010. New spaces include the 3000 square foot Fewell Gallery, a beautiful 5000 square foot public plaza and a courtyard off of the main lobby.
Visitors can explore the building’s history as the Old Police and Fire Station by viewing the photography exhibit in the lobby area, taking a cell phone audio tour, or scheduling a guided tour. Inside the building, visitors can see the former jail cells, courtroom and apparatus bay room. The building’s exterior features WPA artworks, including firefighter busts, that add striking decorative features to the building’s architecture, which is a blending of “Depression Moderne” and Mediterranean Revival.
The Museum is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, having been restored and constructed utilizing best environmental practices and materials. Additions to the existing building and new construction are sympathetic to the original design.
