queenSteamboat                         35th Anniversary WMCA Conference was a Success!
Education . . . Strength of a Mighty River

The 35th Anniversary Conference for the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association was successful in bringing together 349 active members for three and a half days of great, up-to-the-minute education.  There will be a full re-cap email (with pictures) later this week.  Here are just a couple of the highlights:

I will tell you that the membership did vote in the revised WMCA Constitution and Brenda Ayers and Kelly Michaels were elected as your 2015-16 Directors-at-Large at the Annual Business Meeting held on Thursday, August 20, 2015.

The winner of the "Emerald" Trip from the WCEF Raffle, sponsored by the League of Wisconsin Municipalities Mutual Insurance and their many Agents, was Jill Kenda-Lubetski WCMC/CMC, the Clerk of the Village of Brown Deer!

Make Your Reservation
for the
2016 WMCA Conference
The Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association block of rooms is ready for your reservation at the Radisson Paper Valley in Appleton.  For those of you that were in La Crosse on Friday and received a slip of paper in your 2016 gift box - I would advise just throwing that slip away!!  Not only were the dates incorrect but it now turns out that the hotel rate has changed!

Here is the correct information for making your reservations -
You can call for reservations at 1-800-333-3333 or 1-920-733-8000
The pre-conference date next year is Wednesday, August 17th and the actual conference is Thursday-Friday, August 18-19, 2016.

The room rate for a single room is at "State Rate", however, we just learned that the rate was increased in the new state budget, therefore, our single room rate is now $82 (not $70.)  The double occupancy rate will remain at $97.

I would also request that you only reserve as many rooms as you will be using for the conference.  Please do not over estimate just because a friend might need a room next year.  The hotel is under no obligation to put a room back into the WMCA block next year when you cancel it.  Therefore, members signing up next Spring could end up paying a higher rate for a room outside of our block and the WMCA could be charged for not fulfilling our obligation of guaranteed rooms.

Apprenticeship program for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators

Wisconsin's Registered Apprenticeship program offers an excellent opportunity to train highly skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators for your municipality.

Through this model program operated by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Registered Apprenticeship combines on-the-job learning with periodic classroom learning.

Its design is highly recognized across in-demand industries for its effectiveness in developing skilled workers, maintaining productivity, and providing an internal career ladder to promote current workers.   The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator apprenticeship was designed by state leaders and a focus group of municipal and metropolitan plants.

A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator apprentice will learn the occupation hands-on, directly from your current Operators. The core competencies, identified by operators across the state, can be taught flexibly to fit a plant's specific needs, including equipment, standards, and goals.   The apprentice learns the theory behind their daily duties through traditional classroom learning.

The program is 6,000 hours, or approximately three years.  It includes 5,568 hours of on-the-job learning and 432 hours of paid related instruction, which is typically six semesters. The program prepares apprentices for four certification exams by the state Department of Natural Resources, which they must pass in order to graduate.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator apprenticeship will provide future Operators with the expertise of current Operators, making the program ideal for anticipated retirements or plant expansions.
