35th Anniversary WMCA Conference

Education . . . Strength of a Mighty River

La Crosse Queen
Welcome aboard the authentic
La Crosse Queen paddlewheeler for 1-1/2 hours of scenic delight on the upper Mississippi River! As the La Crosse Queen paddles upstream on the main channel of the Mississippi River, your guide will explain facts and trivia of the historical and present day river, along with local points of interest. Watch for eagles and other wildlife as we cruise past steep bluffs adjacent to the "Great River Road" (Hwy. 14/61) a route designated by AAA as one of the most scenic areas in the Midwest! As we near Lock & Dam No.7 in Dresbach, Minnesota, we will explain the locking process to you.  You can have a light supper— Enjoy complimentary pizza with unlimited beer and soda while you cruise on the mighty Mississippi River.  Cost is only $20 per person.

Do you have a hotel room for the conference?

Most of the hotels we have blocks with are now full.  Your best choice now is the Best Western Midway Hotel at 1835 Rose Street, La Crosse.  We have a room rate of $84.99 with them for 2-double beds or a King.  This would be a good hotel for clerks bringing their young families because there is a small waterpark and restaurants available.  It is a 5-7 minute drive from the La Crosse Center.  For Reservations Call:  608-782-7000  or toll free 1-877-688-9260.  Group Name:  WMCA.

Don't Forget to Register for the Classes!
It seems there is at least one clerk a year that gets to the conference only to find out they never actually registered for the conference!  Remember, getting your hotel room reservation is only half of what you need to do.

Check out the details on the 35th Anniversary WMCA Conference website by clicking here This conference website will show you all of the class descriptions; speakers bios; conference fees and you can register on-line.  Remember, you don't need a credit card to register for the conference from the website.  The system will send you a confirmation/invoice after you register and mark that you will be paying by check.  Then mail in your check with a copy of the confirmation as soon as you can.
Hope to see you in La Crosse!

Vendors - We have a Booth waiting for you!

The booths in our exhibit hall for the 35th Annual WMCA Conference are filling fast.  We are limited to 60 booths this year and about half have been taken at the time of this article.  We do have some great booth locations still available.  Vendors will set up by noon on Wednesday, August 19th and tear down after 3:30 pm on August 20th.  If you did not receive your 2015 Conference information for Vendors by email last month, please contact the WMCA Executive Director via email at coordinator@wisclerks.org

The La Crosse Center also has a great set of small rooms for Vendor Demonstrations this year, so everyone that wants a room should be able to sign up for one.  There are also advertising opportunities available in our conference program.  Contact the Executive Director today.

Get Involved on a WMCA Committee

First Vice President Sandy Boettcher is starting to form her committees for the 2015-2016 WMCA year.  If you have been thinking about getting involved in your association, this is a great way to get started.  Many of the committees are able to meet via teleconference for most meetings.  Scholarship, Certification and WCEF Committee do need to have at least some face-to-face meetings.  You can see the description of our committees on our website (click here).  Then contact Sandy Boettcher at sandyb@ci.altoona.wi.us and let her know you are interested and she will let you know if there is still a spot available.

If you were on a committee this year and would like to continue or drop out, watch for a separate email coming your way this week and please respond to that as soon as possible.

Remember, committee participation does count for points toward the WCPC certification.

Our Associate members support the WMCA by purchasing ad space in our E-Newsletters and on our website.  Remember the next time you need to buy new equipment or services, see what the WMCA Associates have to offer.
