Monthly Oncology Tumor Boards: B-Cell Lymphomas: Histologic Transformation of Indolent Lymphomas

Precise diagnosis of histologic transformation is essential since the prognosis and management of transformed indolent lymphoma is significantly different from that of its indolent counterpart. Treatment should be highly individualized taking into account the histology of aggressive lymphoma at the time of transformation (DLBCL vs. HGBL), prior treatment received for underlying indolent lymphoma follicular lymphoma versus marginal zone lymphomas (FL vs. MZL), and the patient’s eligibility for transplant. Educating clinicians about the challenges associated with the management of transformed indolent lymphomas and the recent advances in management would help clinicians to incorporate novel therapies into routine clinical practice in the appropriate patient population to improve clinical outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the risk factors associated with the histologic transformation of indolent B-cell lymphomas.
  • Review evidence from clinical trials supporting the use of novel treatment options for transformed indolent B-cell lymphomas. 
  • Develop an individualized treatment plan for patients with transformed indolent B-cell lymphomas.
