AdvancED International Summit 2012

Registration for the AdvancED International Summit 2012 remains open.  The Summit will take place June 24-26, 2012 in Washington, D.C.  With the Summit theme of Creating the Future: Accelerating Excellence, the event will engage state and national education leaders and policymakers in an exploration of strategies for designing effective learning systems for the future.  Attendees will:

Interested in Dinner with Thomas Friedman

Thomas Friedman, internationally renowned author, reporter, and columnist will join us at the AdvancED International Summit 2012 for a special dinner session Monday, June 25.  Mr. Friedman, referred to by Vanity Fair as “the country’s best newspaper columnist,” will present a compelling global context for the clear need to reshape our educational system. Gwen Ifill Named Special Guest Moderator

Gwen Ifill, moderator and managing editor of Washington Week and senior correspondent for NewsHour, will moderate the Tuesday morning plenary session at the AdvancED International Summit 2012.  This panel discussion, focused on student learning, will offer insights into new and innovative ways students, practitioners and education leaders are redefining the classroom experience.  Along with Ifill, several well-known experts, authors, and industry leaders are scheduled to lead pre-conference and conference sessions at the Summit.  Education professionals are encouraged to attend and be at the forefront of innovation and leadership in education.  Registration for the Summit is open and specific details, including an agenda, can be found on the AdvancED website at www.advanc-ed.org.

Pre-Conference Sessions Now Open

Enhance your AdvancED International Summit 2012 experience with one of our Sunday pre-conference sessions!  The sessions include:
The Future of Assessment:  The Renaissance of Performance Assessment led by Stuart Kahl, Founding Principal of Measured Progress, an industry leader in customized, K-12 student assessment.  Kahl will discuss a vision of performance assessment; building on his organization’s almost 30 years of practical experience in the field.

The Future of Learning:  Using Emerging Trends and Design Thinking to Innovate led by Jillian Darwish, Vice President of KnowledgeWorks Foundation, an education reform organization that has been intensely focused on the future of education for more than a decade.  Darwish will present the organization’s research on trends of the future in their well-recognized “2020 Forecast.”

Aligning Accountability with Strategies for School Improvement facilitated by representatives from AdvancED and Education Counsel. This will be a lively and substantive discussion among participants to examine the current K-12 accountability landscape and envision strategies to ensure that accountability supports student improvement in the education systems of the future.
