Public Access to Improvement Plans

The School Improvement Plan (SIP) is a planning tool designed to address student achievement and system needs identified through the school's Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA). Additionally, the SIP provides a method for schools to address the school improvement planning requirements of Public Act 25 of the Revised School Code and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) as applicable. Improvement plans should be made available to parents and community members. This can be done by making a copy available in your respective office or by posting on your website. Additional information about School Improvement Plans can be found on the Michigan Legislature website.

MDE Fall 2016 Conference, November 21-22

MDE is excited to announce that the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) author Eric Jensen is the featured keynote at MDE’s Fall Conference 2016. Jensen is a former teacher who grew up in San Diego, California. With a Ph.D. in Human Development, he synthesizes brain research and develops practical applications for K-12 educators.

On November 21, Jensen will present the keynote and two breakout sessions focusing on “Teaching and Engaging with Poverty in Mind” for attendees. Eric Jensen’s book, Teaching with Poverty in Mind, will be discussed. This powerful day explores both the science and the specific classroom strategies to reach students of poverty.

On day two, Dr. Jensen will dig deeper by looking at “Tools of Engagement” during his next session. Participants will get a fabulous update of Eric Jensen’s popular book, Tools for Engagement. This session is highly practical, very energizing and gives you tons of specific classroom-tested ideas. It is ideal for both elementary and secondary staff.

Request for proposals to present at the conference will be available on the MIEM website mid-June.
