New AdvancED Standards Unveiled

Just as schools and districts are subject to a rigorous process of review and continuous improvement, so are AdvancED Standards. In order to comply with the AdvancED policy that requires the AdvancED Standards to be reviewed every five years, a Standards Committee began meeting in the fall of 2009 to review the current Standards, which have been in place since 2007.  This review allowed the Committee to look at current education quality and research, as well as the knowledge gained from everyday application by accredited schools and districts.  As a result of this review, the AdvancED Standards have been rewritten.  The new version includes five Standards:

1.    Purpose and Direction
2.    Governance and Leadership
3.    Teaching and Assessing for Learning
4.    Resources and Support Systems
5.    Using Results for Continuous Improvement

The new Standards will be implemented for the 2012-13 school year, but now are posted for viewing on both of the Accreditation Resources and Tools Web pages for Schools and School Systems.  Select the item labeled 2012-13 school year.  Schools and school systems hosting visits in the 2011-2012 school year will continue to use AdvancED’s current Standards.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact our office.

AdvancED ASSIST to Re-shape School Improvement
AdvancED Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools (ASSIST) is the future of school improvement.  ASSIST joins a world-class array of knowledge resources, practical implementation tools with interactive screens to create a fully integrated web-based system.  This new technology can help schools ensure no compliance detail or improvement activity is missed during the improvement process.  Districts, state agencies, and partner organizations also will benefit from ASSIST by harnessing the ability to aggregate and review, for the first time, how the practical work of school improvement is conducted at the local level.  ASSIST allows schools and districts to gain a better understanding of past successes and opportunities and confidently build and implement a solid, research-based plan for the future.  Read more from the News section on the International Services Web page.

2011-2012 Annual Accreditation Fee
Your 2011-2012 accreditation fees were due July 31, 2011. As you may know, we send the invoices in the spring of each year for the upcoming year’s fees. This gives you flexibility with regard to the budget year of payment and assists with planning expenses for the coming year.

Your accreditation fees enable the Office of International Services to provide you with local support for accreditation as well as international leadership and representation through AdvancED. Specifically, your fees help pay the costs associated with on-site external review visits, customized technical assistance, web-based reporting, professional development, publications, and tools that support you in your efforts to continuously improve.  If you have already submitted payment--thank you. If not, please promptly pay your accreditation fee so that you can continue to experience the benefits of accreditation.
