Dear readers:

People come together to help in Madison, Milwaukee

Pain. Anger. Shock. Just plain fed up. Those are just a few of the emotions that followed the death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis. People have exercised their First Amendment rights to protest; a few others who likely were not among those peaceful protesters inflicted damage in many American cities, including Milwaukee and Madison. Please read here and here about those citizens who stepped up to clean up.

GUEST COLUMN: Furloughs, layoffs, and other words better unsaid: Workforce planning in a time of pandemic

Much has changed in our lives in the past 80 days.  This marks the period since most of our lives seemed “normal.”  We have become telecommuters.  We have become home-school educators.  We have become crisis managers.  As entrepreneurs, we have also added several other titles that most of us never predicted … such as bankers, negotiators, or human resource professionals.

Each of these changes has been brought on by the circumstance of a global pandemic.  The one question to remain after we survived those earliest days of uncertainty is which roles will remain when all of this is over. Click here to read Sachse’s full column.

Happy birthday, Wisconsin: You’ve aged well

At a time when some iconic gatherings are being cancelled or delayed, including the Wisconsin State Fair for the first time in 75 years, it’s important to remember the state has weathered hard times in the past … Civil War deaths that topped 12,000, the Peshtigo fire, two World Wars, the Great Recession and more. From its statehood in 1848 until now, Wisconsin has both prospered and persevered. So, happy 172nd! Here’s hoping No. 173 is a little more normal.
