June 3, 2020

Dear readers:

As policymakers address the economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic, university researchers warn that entrepreneurship is in peril and needs immediate support to accelerate new business creation. Researchers from Columbia University, Boston University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology combined in a report that concluded business formation is collapsing in the wake of lockdown policies and targeted assistance will be needed to encourage entrepreneurship, new growth and jobs.

In a nutshell, that’s why are holding the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference on a virtual platform Thursday. It may be a small step in a huge economy, but our board and staff know that emerging companies are among the keys to recovery. Here’s some recent news coverage:

WisconsinINNO: Here are the 12 startups pitching at WI’s Governor’s Business Plan Contest
WisBusiness: The 2020 Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Conference is Thursday

Please note we won’t publish Thursday, June 4 due to the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference, but will return on Friday, June 5.  It’s not too late to join us at
witrepsconference.com.

Happy birthday, Wisconsin: You’ve aged well

At a time when some iconic gatherings are being cancelled or delayed, including the Wisconsin State Fair for the first time in 75 years, it’s important to remember the state has weathered hard times in the past … Civil War deaths that topped 12,000, the Peshtigo fire, two World Wars, the Great Recession and more. From its statehood in 1848 until now, Wisconsin has both prospered and persevered. So, happy 172nd! Here’s hoping No. 173 is a little more normal.
