As always, September brings with it a fresh sense of optimism. At NICHQ this year, the excitement exceeds ordinary September levels. The first Learning Session for Collaborate for Healthy Weight is September 14-16 in Washington, DC, coinciding with National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. We're also observing Sickle Cell Awareness Month and Newborn Screening Awareness Month in September.

Ready to Kick-Off the Healthy Weight Learning Collaborative
 Ten teams, one from each HRSA region around the country, have been selected to participate in Phase One of the Healthy Weight Learning Collaborative. The Learning Collaborative is one part of NICHQ's Collaborate for Healthy Weight project, a new program designed to promote healthy weight and improve health equity through innovative local partnerships. The ten teams will attend the first Learning Session for Phase One of this two-phase project on September 14-16 in Washington, DC. We will be posting Facebook updates and live Tweeting from the meeting (@NICHQ).

New Report From Be Our Voice Captures Inspiring Stories of Change
 The Be Our Voice project aims to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic across the nation by training, supporting and providing technical assistance to healthcare professionals in becoming advocates for change within their communities. Now a new report highlights inspiring stories from eight communities that are not content with the status quo.

Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program Announced
 September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month, an exciting time for NICHQ to announce a new program that seeks to improve newborn screening and follow up for the disease. The Newborn Screening Program fills out NICHQ's Sickle Cell portfolio and means that NICHQ's quality improvement focus will be directed across the entire lifespan of those who suffer with the blood disorder. |
