Sandy for WTA page Have a Great Election Day!

From President Boettcher

Greetings:

I’m not sure if these are encouraging words or not, but just think, soon we will have one election behind us and only three left to go.

The Promotions Committee has been busy arranging to have their committee members and other clerks available to speak at the Wisconsin Towns Association District Meetings during the months of February and March.   This is a wonderful opportunity for our association to promote and discuss the advances that we can provide to town clerks if they join WMCA.

The Manuals Committee will be meeting on February 25th to review changes they are suggesting to the manual as well as working on other chapters.  The 2016 Conference Committee will be meeting on February 26th and will be touring the Paper Valley Convention Center and finalizing last minute details of the conference.  The PEC Committee will be meeting soon, to select the break out sessions for the conference.

The Northern Wisconsin Clerks Training is now taking registrations from Districts 1, 2 and 8.  If we do not reach our projected numbers, the registrations will open to other clerks in April.   I am so pleased with the response that this training session is receiving from our northern districts.  The Board of Directors will be holding our quarterly meeting during this training on May 13, 2016 in Minocqua at The Waters.

A gigantic thank you goes out to our district directors who have been holding training sessions in their districts.   If weather permits I will try to attend as many as possible.   Speaking of attending meetings, I will also be in the State of Minnesota, March 15th – 18th at the MCFOA Annual Conference.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to share new ideas and come back to our association with new class ideas.

If your Energy Bus feels like freezing up or stalling during this winter, call me and I’ll be happy to give you an energy jump.    Stay warm.

Ready to Give Back - Join a WMCA Committee

Is it spring yet?  This winter hasn’t been as terrible as I thought it was going to be, but I am ready for spring, to get out on my bike and enjoy the warm weather.  This time of year also brings about WMCA Committee appointments for the next WMCA year – 2016-2017 so it’s time to get the ball rolling.  Whether you are on a committee, have served on one in the past, or have never been a committee member, I encourage you to step up and give back to your organization.  If you’re worried about time commitment and being out of the office, some of our committees are able to have phone meetings, and those that meet usually do so two or three times a year.

I encourage you to sign up for a committee as it’s a great way to give back to WMCA, start (or continue) to earn points for your certification, and make new friends!  I’ve served on 4 committees in my career and they have been a great experience.   If you have any questions about what a committee does, feel free to ask me, or head to the website and look up who the committee chair is.  They will be happy to talk with you about what they do and how they do it.

Finally, if you know you are ready to serve on a committee, please let me know.  The incoming President is responsible for appointing all committee members and I want to make sure we have a full crew on each committee.  Shoot an email to me at bootleg711@hotmail.com (even if it’s just to say hi) and I’ll mark down which committee(s) you’d like to serve on.  Thank you, all of you for stepping up and participating in your WMCA!

Northern Wisconsin Clerk Training Days

To all District 1, 2, & 8 Clerks & Deputies

You asked for it, we heard you –
Mark your calendars and join us
for two days of Nuts & Bolts Clerk Training.

Thursday/Friday, May 12 & 13, 2016

An Email Invitation for the Northern Wisconsin Training Days was sent out  on February 1st to the northern districts.  There are special hotel room rates available before, during and after the training days.

With the smaller venues in the north, there is a limit of 200 attendees.  These training days have been designed for District 1, 2, and 8.  Those clerks and deputies will have February and March to register.  However, if the 200 attendee limit is not reached by April 1st, we will open registration to the rest of the state.  Watch your email and the monthly E-Newsletters for more information.

If you are a northern clerk and did not see your email, check your junk mail or click here to go to the Northern Wisconsin Training Days site.

There are scholarships available to attend the Northern Wisconsin Training Days.  Click here to open an on-line, fillable scholarship form.  Or click here for a paper copy to download.

Scholarships  Going to UW-GB Institute or Master Academy -
Scholarships are available

The new 2016 WMCA-UW-Green Bay Clerks Institute Scholarship Application is available.  All WMCA members planning to attend the Clerks Institute or Master Academy may apply for a scholarship to help with the costs. Members are encouraged to apply for a scholarship no matter which year of the institute you are attending.  In addition to the scholarships for each of the three years of the Clerks Institute, there are scholarships available for members attending Clerks Completion and the Master Academy.

The 2016 application is available in two formats.  There is a new, on-line fillable form and when you finish filling it out and hit “Done” the application is automatically sent to the WMCA office. Or if you want to do it the old fashioned way, you can print out a blank form, fill it out, and mail it to the WMCA Office.  Completed applications and the letter from your Supervisor, Mayor, or Board President stating their support for you to attend the UW Clerks Institute must be mailed in with a postmark no later than April 15th.

The UW-Green Bay Clerks and Treasurers Institute in Green Bay is a great place to learn the skills you need to be the best Clerk you can be. Graduating from the Institute, you also earn 50% of the points required to become a certified clerk. For more information regarding the curriculum and registration for the 2016 Clerks Institute on July 10-15, click here, or go to the UW-GB Institute website.
