Greetings from the Parents Program at Seaver College
October 2014

Happy Autumn! Malibu may be in its perpetual state of sunshine, but we are gearing up for an exciting fall season (even if we don't need scarves and hot cocoa just yet). Waves Weekend is right around the corner Oct. 17-19! We encourage you and your family to come and celebrate with the Pepperdine community. It will be a great time to reconnect with your student and relieve them of their "studies" for a few days (or do they really just go to the beach?). Either way, we hope to see you there!

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." Hebrews 10:24-25

Wave Classic Golf Tournament -– November 3, 2014

Golf-classic

The Pepperdine Wave Classic Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, November 3, 2014. We are grateful to our parent sponsors, auction donors, and volunteers who make this a highly successful event. An exciting day of golf and fellowship is in store for the 16th Annual Pepperdine Wave Classic, and we look forward to partnering with you in support the students of Seaver College.

Our exciting day will consist of a tasty breakfast, barbeque lunch; contests will include a Golf "Warm-Up" Clinic, Longest Drive, closest to the pin and Putting Contest. The day will close with a cocktail reception and awards dinner in the clubhouse dining room followed by silent and live auctions.

The Parent Program only holds one fundraiser a year and we need parent volunteers like you! Here's some ways to get involved:

We are still in need of auction donation items-anything from a lunch certificate to a vacation stay is appreciated. Thank you to the amazing parents who have already made a donation or given a sponsorship. The funds raised at the auction supply desperately-needed scholarships for our students. Please call 310-506-6110 or e-mail kimberly.barkis@pepperdine.edu if you have an item you would like to donate.

We also need volunteers throughout the day to help man the holes, going out on the course, greeting golfers and serving as witnesses for our holes with contests on them (such as hole-in-one, closest to the pin, and longest drive). Volunteers may also help the evening shift by assisting with our silent and live auctions. Overall, it’s a great opportunity to serve with fellow staff members and Seaver College parents, in addition to meeting some of the students you will be helping through your volunteering. Please call 310-506-6899 or e-mail Lacey.VonLanken@pepperdine.edu if you are able to help.

Please visit the tournament website for more details. We hope to see you there!

Artists have been inspired by nature since the dawn of time. This exhibition features a diverse group of contemporary artists who comment on our relationship to the natural world. Their art reveals the complex ways nature functions in society—ranging from a source of beauty to be admired to a resource to be respected, utilized, and conserved. Works by artists such as Ed Ruscha, Joe Goode, Peter Alexander, Chuck Arnoldi, and many younger talents capture our complex and multifaceted connection with our environment.

Open Tuesday - Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM, and one hour prior to most performances through intermission. Admission free. Please call 310.506.4851 for more information, or click here.
