Dear readers:

One of the fascinating success stories in Wisconsin over the past decade has been the rise of Exact Sciences, which was on its last legs in Boston, Mass., when a couple of savvy business people from Madison moved it to town in hopes of finding a better way to combat colon cancer. Eleven years and many ups and downs later, Exact Sciences is a precision oncology company -- yet agile enough to pitch in to the fight against COVID-19. Chairman and CEO Kevin Conroy humbly credits everyone but himself, but his body of work has earned him the 2020 Ken Hendrick Memorial Seize the Day award from the Tech Council and its steering committee for the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference. Please read more below and take part in the virtual conference to hear more from Conroy.

Stay tuned as we roll out more highlights of the annual conference in the coming days.

Make sure to check out our newsroom below for fast-changing information about Wisconsin’s reopening process.

‘Siri, did you know your boss will speak June 4 at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference?’

We’ll announce more conference highlights soon, including engaging ways for attendees to network among themselves and presenters. Nothing beats live, but this will come close! Among the features of the conference over time have been the Governor’s Business Plan Contest (see more below) and a presentation by the winner of the Wisconsin Youth Entrepreneurs in Science, or YES!, contest. A full release on the young people advancing in that competition is linked here, as well.

Please stay tuned for more about panel discussions, workshops and special networking activities.

The BPC class of 2020: Finalist profiles

The Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest began in late January and will culminate June 4 during the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference. Some contest finalists were profiled by senior and graduate students in a UW-Madison Department of Life Sciences Communication capstone class. Visit WisBusiness.com, our “Student Stories” and our BPC website to see more stories about these young companies. Today’s feature story is about “Güd Medical.”

Güd Medical offers a less expensive yet precise IV tool to the medical world
By Alexis Terry

Madison-based Güd Medical is striving to be a leader in delivering medicine and intravenous fluids as precisely as possible.

In hospitals across the world, there is a common theme: people and trauma. In urgent cases, intravenous or “IV” compound medications are often used in order to help people and deliver essential medicines.

Intravenous technologies are even used in non-hospital circumstances such as in research, dentistry and veterinary applications. When it comes to blood samples, mixing medications, or dosing medication, IV is the “go-to” method.  Click here to read the full story.
