Apply to pitch your company to the most active investors in the Midwest at the annual Wisconsin Early Stage Symposium, to be held Nov. 16-17 at Madison’s Monona Terrace. Many companies have cited past presentations at the conference as a key factor in funding and growing their business. New this year are the Investor Intros. Companies selected for the Investor Intros will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with investors from Wisconsin and beyond. To foster this type of communication, the Investor Intros will feature short introductory meetings between investors and emerging companies. This format will resemble a “speed dating” exercise, allowing both parties to learn more about each other and explore potential relationships. Company applications are due no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016.

‘Pokémon Go’… or No? Games, online learning topic of Sept. 27 Tech Council Innovation luncheon

With the school year underway and many parents hoping to replace “screen time” with homework time, the Sept. 27 meeting of the Tech Council Innovation Network in Madison will focus on the pros and (occasional) cons of online games and learning. Two gaming companies and two academic experts will discuss educational games and what current research says about how it affects learning and other behaviors, particularly in younger users.

An independent report on “The Value of Higher Education to Wisconsin’s Economy” will be discussed by the president of the University of Wisconsin System and the head of the Wisconsin Technology Council at the Thursday, Sept. 22 and Wednesday, Oct. 19 Tech Council’s Innovation Network meetings in Stevens Point and Appleton. UW System President Ray Cross will be joined by Tech Council President Tom Still for a discussion about how Wisconsin can better capitalize on higher education’s economic benefits, which range from supplying talent to carrying out research that can create intellectual property, commercial products and companies.
