Dear Members and Friends
82 years
ago on 15 February 1942,
Singapore fell to the invading
Japanese forces. The next 3+
years of occupation brought
death and suffering, untold
misery, economic dislocation and
severe food shortages.
2024 marks 40 years since Total
Defence Day was inaugurated. To
commemorate Total Defence Day,
the Important Message signal of
the Public Warning System is
sounded at 6.20pm each year on
15 February. 6.20pm was the
exact time the British
surrendered Singapore to Japan
in 1942.
We mark 15
February every year as Total
Defence Day as a reminder of
what could happen to us if we
cannot defend Singapore
ourselves. We mark Total Defence
Day every year to strengthen our
collective resolve to keep
Singapore safe, secure and
sovereign.
#neverforget15Feb1942
The key word here is
“collective” because everyone
has a role to play. The business
community knows full well that
without unity of purpose,
without deterrence, without
National Service there would be
no security, no peace and no
economy.
Supportive
employers play a critical role
in Total Defence. With your
support, our NSmen are able to
better balance their NS
responsibilities and work
commitments.
An inaugural
Exercise SG Ready will be held
at various locations across the
island from 15 Feb to 29 Feb
2024. This exercise aims to
simulate disruptions of daily
life and necessities arising
from widespread cyberattacks,
disinformation campaigns and
drone attacks. Being prepared is
a key component of Total
Defence. Show your support and
check out the Total Defence
resources here:

The Chamber and its members
salute our Armed Forces, all
past and present servicemen and
women and all past and present
NSmen. We also salute all
essential frontline workers and
every Singaporean and resident
who enable our lives.
