Edition 3, 2017 | The GBS Edge Undergraduate Student Newsletter
|
In this edition
As
Trimester 2 classes come to an end, we thought it would be a great time
to share some helpful tips on how to prepare for your exams, and where
to get additional support should you need it. We will also
share information on the variety of opportunities available to you as a
Griffith Business School student.
Enrolments for Trimester 3 open soon!
Don't forget that enrolment for Trimester 3
opens the week beginning 25 September 2017. You might consider adding
courses to your study load in Trimester 3 so you can graduate sooner.
Or, you can opt for part-time study across the three trimesters, which
can give you more time for work and other commitments.
On behalf of the Griffith Business School
community I wish you all the very best for your final
assessment items this Trimester.
Best wishes
Professor Ross Guest
Dean (Learning and Teaching)
Griffith Business School

Exams don't have to be scary
The students who get the highest marks are not necessarily the ones who are the smartest, but the ones who are the most organised and well-prepared throughout the trimester.
Top tips for exam prep
1. Read the Course Profile. You can find all your Course Profiles at Learning@Griffith. It will outline all the assessment items for the trimester, including exams.
2. Dig up past exams. Exams from previous years are sometimes made available via your Learning@Griffith course. Unsure if you can get hold of a previous exam for your course? Ask your friendly lecturer or have a chat with students who have already completed the course.
3. Get the inside scoop on exam content. Your lecturers set the exam and they teach you the content, so it’s highly likely they will emphasise the important topics during the trimester. If they make a song and dance about a particular fact, principle or point during class (maybe not literally), they will probably include it in the exam.
4. Take awesome notes. If you develop an effective note taking technique early on, it’s going to be a breeze when you put together your study notes at the end of trimester. Do you want to have to rewrite your scribbled, chaotic notes during study week? No you don't.

Study (and PASS) with the best in the business
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) offer a series of free and enjoyable group learning sessions for a selection of courses that students often find to be very challenging. The free one-hour study sessions are facilitated by high achieving students who have already completed the course(s).
Recently, two of our PASS Leaders were announced as winners of the Australasian PASS Leader Achievement Awards. Caitlene Hillman (Bachelor of Commerce and GBS Student Leader) was awarded Outstanding New Leader, and Heba Allouche (Bachelor of Business), took out the award for Outstanding Senior Leader. Congratulations to Caitlene and Heba!

Sarah sat down with us to discuss the success of The Village Markets, which is now a Gold Coast institution helping to foster the careers of other designers and artists.
